As I was bitching about the judges my husband brought up the P!nk song where she talks about L.A. Reid trying to make her conform to the current artists' style.

Crystal - ‘Long as I can See the Light'

She is obviously back from the hospital but they didn't elaborate as to what it was for.  People online have been reporting it had something to do w/ diabetes but no official word on that.  She played guitar & again, seemed to me like she barely sang.  I know everyone raves about this girl & she is good at what she does but she barely does anything.  I am just not impressed.  Randy said she is the truth & he loves that she is not trying to be anything she's not.  The judges really pissed me off tonight & I will get angrier & angrier as I type up their critiques.  So Crystal is OK to be who she is but no one else can.  They have to fit into some stupid mold that the judges think they should be in & lose themselves.  But Crystal can do a Credence song & they don't say boo about it.  Ellen said she has pure, natural talent & wants her to stay healthy cuz they need her.  I guess that is why they moved the show around for this one chick huh?  Kara was an idiot & said ‘U Oughta Know' didn't fit her when Crystal did ‘Hand in my Pocket' last week.  I am starting to tune Kara out more & more as she morphs into Paula.  Simon said Crystal didn't play the sympathy thing.  He under-estimated her.  He thinks her vocal is incredible & compared her to Kelly Clarkson in that she is a serious artist.  Alright then.

Haeley - ‘The Climb'

I can't stand Miley Cyrus & it's sad when you can say Miley sang this better.  & I think Haeley oozes more cheese than Miley too.  But the judges should love it right cuz she's a young girl & she did a young girl's song.  Nope.  Randy said it didn't work.  He thought it was excruciating.  He said it was so pitchy & not right for her.  She had no connection to the song.  Ellen seems to have to contradict everything Simon says & she can't let go of something said a week ago even & said she doesn't want Haeley to ever stop smiling.  She didn't feel connected to the song & it didn't have feeling.    Kara compared her to Adam in that she has a fanbase that is rooting for her.  She's open & real but she needs a year to strengthen her instrument.  Simon said it was a complete & utter mess.  He said it was ironic she was singing about climbing when she fell off.

Lacey - ‘Kiss Me'

She did this song cuz Queen Kara suggested it last week.  I did think it suited her voice & she was better this week but I just didn't care.  I do like the song, just not her version of it.  Randy thought it was a good choice but it was karaoke & she didn't do anything special.  Ellen said she didn't change it up but she's adorable.  Kara said she has a unique sound but she has to step it up.  Simon said it was marginally better but it isn't showcasing her as an artist.  Simon spent the night ramming Crystal down everyone's throats & said that's the difference between her & Crystal.  He said no one will remember her.  I LoLd when he said that cuz by that point I couldn't remember the song his precious Crystal had sang.  All I could remember is her missing teeth & that she didn't sing as much.

Katie - ‘Put Your Records On'

I loved that Michael would be the 1^st to stand up as each girl was singing & he was just so into it & all smiley & comforting.  You could see some of the girls lock eyes w/ him & he seemed to encourage them.  I liked that.  & I liked Katie's singing this week.  She & DiDi were the only ones I liked last week so she is consistent for me.  I will summarize the judges but as I go, I know I will get more & more pissed off cuz I was pausing the show & bitching at my husband as they went on.  Randy said there were some bright moments.  Her upper register is good but the 1^st part was pitchy.  Ellen said she has a really great voice but wants to see her do a younger song.  This is where my blood starts boiling.  So Crystal can do a Creedence song & that's not old?  Sixpence None the Richer is from 13 years ago.  Not current.  Haeley did a young song but that didn't go over well either.  The Michael Buble song she did last week was more current than this one but she is still ripped for not being young.  & WTF does she have to be young?  Can't she be who she is?  If she likes this style of music, why are you trying to make her an artist that she's not?  So Crystal can do old stuff cuz "she's the truth" but Katie has to be a Jonas Brother?  Please.  Kara said she is so frustrated w/ Katie & then she rambled on & I tuned her out.  My husband has literally started putting earplugs in during the judges' critiques.  I wish I had that luxury.  Simon said she did attempt to make it younger but she isn't telling them what kind of artist she would be.  Um, yeah she did.  You just want to paint her into a teeny bopper corner & that's that.  He said people will vote for her cuz they like her.  Gee, ya think?

DiDi - ‘Lean on Me'

I groaned when they said she was doing this song cuz I thought it was going to be very dull.  But she changed it up just enough that she didn't make it unrecognizable but it was different & cool.  I really liked it.  She did everything the judges have asked for so they are going to love it right?  Wrong again.  Randy wouldn't have chosen a soul song cuz it showed her imperfections.  Ellen loves her voice & she tried to do stuff w/ it but it wasn't the greatest choice.  Kara said it wasn't good.  She thinks DiDi is missing consistency & it felt karaoke.  She lost the uniqueness of her voice.  Simon said she was all over the place & screeching.  He said it was a bad choice.  This is a fantastic opportunity & she does something generic & it's a wasted opportunity.  I got pissed at Ryan trying to make the girl talk when her eyes were welling up & it was clear she wouldn't be able to speak w/ out crying.  I totally disagree w/ the judges & I really liked DiDi again this week.  One of the few bright spots of this crappy 24 they inflicted on us.

Michelle - ‘With Arms Wide Open'

This made me LoL again this week.  This chick just sucks.  & just like Miley, you know you're bad when Scott Stapp has a better vocal.  & her outfit was a joke.  Her skirt looked like she tucked it into her jeans when she pulled them up after peeing.  Randy said there were pitch problems & it fell flat.  Ellen said she did a lot w/ the song & she forgot it was a rock song.  Probably cuz it was such a pile of crap, even for Creed.  She said there were a couple pitch problems but it almost worked.  Kara said this is her favorite performance ever from Michelle.  It felt believable.  Simon said the 1^st ½ was much stronger but she struggled w/ some notes.  She didn't choose a safe song & did attempt to make it her own.

Lilly - ‘A Change is Gonna Come'

Another young girl doing a young artist.  No?  She played guitar on this one & seemed to talk more than sing.  It wasn't bad but wasn't great either.  But I know since she looks like Edgar Winter that means she is so unique so the judges will love it.  Randy said this is the season of the most unique contestants.  He thought she worked it out & is his favorite performance of the night.  Ellen said she has got "IT".  She thinks by far the best of the night.  Kara said she just had her 1^st moment.  Or was that movement?  Simon said it was good but he wasn't crazy about it.  He thought she oversang & that Crystal was stronger.

Katelyn - ‘The Scientist'

She sat at the piano as she sang this.  I can't really judge it cuz I am so not a fan of Coldplay.  I was bored but don't know if it was her performance or the horrible song.  Randy really liked it.  He said it was way slow but was great until the last notes.  Ellen liked that she was playing guitar.  Then realized it was piano & covered it up by saying she fell asleep cuz the song was so slow.  Kara said she kind of loves Katelyn.  She has an incredible instrument but was all over the place in her song choices & needs to figure out who she is.  Ugh.  Why can't someone be diverse?  Can't you want to do different styles?  Why do you have to be put in a box & never come out?  Simon asked if she has heard the Natasha Bedingfield version cuz it is just like that one.  Katelyn said no.  He thought it was a smart choice & made her contemporary but she's corny when she performs.  It was a million times better than last week.

Paige - ‘Walk Away'

I thought her breathing was off here so it made the song odd.  My husband thought her singing was sharp.  I didn't like this at all.  Randy had to point out that Kara wrote this song.  He liked it but wasn't in love w/ it.  He didn't think it was the best choice.  Ellen loved it & thought she changed it just enough to make it her own & she had fun.  Kara said she can see her having a hit w/ that but if she knew the guy she wrote the song about she wouldn't be smiling during it.  Shut up Paula, I mean Kara.  No one cares about your dramas.  Simon said that's 2 weeks now that she picked the wrong song for herself.  She has such a strong voice but that was forgettable.

Siobhan - ‘Think'

Can you guess what I was bitching about?  Another young girl doing an old song by an old artist.  Ugh.  I didn't like her singing but when she got to the yelling parts I thought she sounded really good.  Randy said she picked the greatest singer.  She's so bold & fearless.  He thought it was dope & he loved it.  Ellen said it was good.  Kara said she can't get over that note.  Siobhan said she learned how to hit that note in the shower to Kelly Clarkson.  Simon said she is such a strange person.  Parts were terrible but that note was incredible.  He said she is interesting & talented.

Randy said some of the girls improved.  Ellen & Kara parroted that there were some good performances.  Simon said there were some marked improvements & some horrific.  He thought Crystal stood out.  Ellen couldn't let that go & had to contradict him & say she didn't hear any horrific performances.

So just like last week, for me the best 2 of the night were DiDi & Katie.  Crystal would be 3^rd.  Bottom 3 for me are Haeley, Michelle & Paige.
