Does anyone believe that Adam Lambert was in fourth place in the voting this week on American Idol? Sure, he may not have been first, but fourth? No Way.

I don't like having my intelligence insulted, even by the Producers of a Reality TV show. And I don't want some stupid legalistic explanation, like, "we never said the bottom two was the two contestants with the lowest number of votes!" As a lawyer, I see rationalizatrions and chutpah-like statements like this every day.

It's plain old Common Sense that when a TV show says two people are in the "bottom two", that SHOULD BE the two contestants with the lowest number of votes.

Can you imagine if Alex Trebek, after Final Jeopardy, told the guy in first place that they fooled him, that the guy in second place really had more money than him? Trebek would look like a fool and a jerk, and Jeopardy would quickly be cancelled.

Not the contestant who the producers arguably want to win, so they lie and put him in the "bottom two" to scare that contestant's fans into voting harder for him or her. I expect this kind of vote counting shenanigans in Chicago, Palm Beach County, Florida, and Minnesota. Not from American Idol.

Since it will be a cold day in hell when the Producers of American Idol do what they really ought to do, post the actual vote totals for every contestant on the American Idol website every week, the least they can do is to have the "Bottom Two" ACTUALLY BE what everyone understands the Bottom Two ought to be: The two contestants with the two lowest numbers of votes.

Politicans can lie to me. I expect that. Reality TV can entertain, even infuriate. Lord knows this season The Stooges have lied through their teeth this season more times than Dick Cheney did in eight years as VP, especially Simon Cowell (yet the great unwashed still believes Simon always tells the truth).

But please don't insult me by trying to get me to believe that Adam Lambert was in 4th Place this week in the voting. That's laughable and sad at the same time.
