Cancelled Shows: Star Dates with Kim Fields

Watching the teasers for this episode, I got the feeling that Kim Fields was forced into doing this by her agent and wasn't all that happy about it. After viewing the episode I now understand why!

The show starts with a reintroduction of Kim Fields, (in case we all forgot who Tootie was) they also remind us she has been on Living Single since then. Kim is introduced in her house which looks quite nice and tells us she has been executive producing and starring in a broadway type show, I am not quite sure because I missed the name.

On to her first date, his name is Rach and he is a bartender and according to his onscreen bio, apparantly takes pride in the fact that his last girlfriend looked like Anna Nicole (not something you really want to advertise considering her train wreck of a life is broadcast right before this show!)

In the bio that is given to Kim he answered the question on if he had one night stands with "whenever possible"--oh yeah I can see how impressed Kim is at this moment--NOT! He also take pride in the fact that he crashed his motorcycle naked at a party--oh boy this guy is a real catch I tell ya! Kim continues on to criticize the way he dresses and you can just hear the warning bells going off!

Finally the disaster, I mean date, starts and one of his first comments to her is that he couldn's believe that she read his sheet and still agreed to go on a date with him. Kim retorts "I was already in the car man", yeah there's a real love connection in bloom.

They go to an ice skating rink, where Rach dances around like and idiot and then proceeds to forget he's on a date and skates pretty much the whole time away from Kim. He states in an interview that he thinks thats where the date went wrong, I think it went wrong before the car door even opened, but that's just my opinion.

He gets upset in the car afterward because she keeps taking phone calls and ignoring him. Now I must admit when I first saw this I was thinking, "Yeah and you ignored her at the skating rink dude", but at the end of the show it says that Kim got 27 phone calls on the date, so I guess I would be a bit ticked off too.

Next up, a bar that looks alot like Rainforest Cafe, though I think it was called Amazon. Rach proceeds to tell Kim that his ideal date is sitting somewhere in Brazil waiting for him, basically implying she's not it, and then proceeds to make remarks that sound like he is cutting down her acting abilities (all while the pop-ups are reminding us of various awards she has won for her talent). She's having no more of this and gets up and walks outside, she does go back in to get him and ends the date politely, but you know the agent who set her up for this is getting a nasty call in the morning.

Date 2 is Julian, a fledgling filmmaker, his first remark upon seeing Kim's picture is "Ahhhh, Tootsie", OK now Kim has mentioned earlier that a date is over if someone calls her 'Tootie', but I think she might be even less impressed being referred to as a white male cross-dresser.......but anyway, other than that this guy seems much better than the first one. He's looking for someone to spend his life with not quick sex, which Kim is impressed with, though she does bring up the first guy by saying "So for a question about a one night stand you wouldn't say something like-Whenever possible?" which really confuses poor Julian.

Just as this date seems to be running smoothly though, poor Julian mentions Tootie, then tries to backtrack by saying he only saw the show like once. He then compounds that mistake by saying it's a girls show and says that the show he really liked was 'In Living Color', which she reminds him she wasn't on. He says yeah he knows but he didn't watch 'Living Single' much either. Now I know celebs hate to date rabid fans, but saying you didn't watch their shows has got to be a hell of an ego blow too.

Julian manages to pull the date together though, they go to the race track, Kim has never been so she's pretty excited. He is a gentleman and gets her chair for her as they sit down for a nice meal, while they watch the races. They seem to hit it off quite nicely at this point.

When she brings him home he tells her that he thinks that people need to be friends first and then they can have sex. Kim sorta disagrees, implying I think that she likes him, they giggle alot together and then say goodbye. Julian tells her she can call him if she wants to go out or to the movies or just for a booty call, she laughs at that so I have a feeling there is a chance of a love connection at least this time, which she more than deserves after the torture she endured earlier!

    Next week is Phyllis Diller.
