Who is she rooting for now? What is Jade really like? By Jacalynn West

MF: We didn’t get to really know you at all. How do you feel about your editing? Are you bummed you didn’t get more camera time?
LESLIE: The way I was portrayed on the show is about 50/50. Half of it is editing and half of it was me. I was a bit more reserved than I am in my everyday life. The stress, lack of privacy, never having any time to myself, all these factors and more caused me to retrieve myself from the "reality tv" aspect of the show. I was the girl trying to take her mic off or walking away when the cameras were there and I was in a conversation. I never really got used to the cameras. With that said, I was by no means mute. I made friendships with certain girls and though not all of them got to know me real well, the editing literally makes me invisible. And I was most definitely not hiding off somewhere the whole time!
As far as being bummed, I was expecting it. Perhaps I wasn't expecting to get as little airtime as I did, but when I came back home I would joke with my friends that I was going to get the "boring/invisible" edit. I know who I am, my friends and family do (and they all know I'm by no means boring!) and that's what matters to me the most.
MF: There certainly is a lot of drama in the house. How did you manage to stay out of it?
LESLIE: It was easy. I just didn't care. I'm very easy-going and laidback and I didn't clash with any of the girls. I was not about to start cat-fights with girls on national television over petty things. I was never there for the drama . But it seems to me that it is portrayed as a bit more dramatic than how it actually went down. It is TV after all!
MF: What is the deal on Jade? Is there more to her than the crazy person we see on the show?
LESLIE: YES! In all honesty, she was one of the girls I got along with best in the house and one of the girls I've kept in touch with the most since the show ended. Yea, she's crazy (and I mean that in a good way)! I think she is the type of person that doesn't necessarily mean harm but doesn't always think before she speaks. She is loud, confident, and has a strong personality and people can interpret that the wrong way. She was never anything but kind to me and I have no reason to harbor any animosity towards her.
MF: How come Brooke was the only one to stand up to Nnenna about the phone? Or did we not see anyone else confront her?
LESLIE: Everyone was kind of annoyed with Nnenna over the phone situation. Other girls said something to her about it. I think Joanie finally just spoke to her calmly and if I remember correctly, the situation was quickly resolved after. It was just for a couple of days that we were kind of like "We don't care about the boyfriend, get off the phone already!" But like the other "cat-fights" I thought it blew over quickly.
MF: Which girls did you bond with? Are you keeping in touch with any of them?
LESLIE: I absolutely love my Brookie. She's one of the kindest, most gentle, sincere, honest people. She's so fun! We talk several times a week. Jade wasn't necessarily my best friend in the house, but we did bond more towards the end. She's another really fun girl. And we probably talk about every 2 weeks. My roommates Kari and Sara were great, they're really sweet and cool girls. We keep in touch through e-mail here and there and I'm sure I'll meet up with them in the future. And Kathy who I wasn't close to in the time she was there, but we ended up keeping in touch through e-mails after. I spoke to her like 3 days ago...she's nutty, but she's a crack up.
MF: What were your favorite challenges & which did you like the least?
LESLIE: The challenges were always crazy! The most fun challenge was probably the last runway I did at the church. I didn't have my walk down, it sucked, and I knew it. But the outfits were great, the energy was high, and I kinda just said "eff it. I'm having fun!" And I did, I had fun even if I looked like a damn fool doing it.
As far as my least favorite, I'd have to say the mini-challenge when we were in what I like to call the "hooker heels" hehe. I remember just being mad about that, like what in the world are we doing? I understand the point, but I could barely walk in regular heels, let alone 8 (10?) inch heels! We had like a whole minute to prepare for it. It was crazy, even the judges were nervous. I was just happy I didn't break my foot. And some of the girls really pulled it off considering!
MF: What do you think you could have done differently to win ANTM?
LESLIE: A couple of things. I don't regret any of it though, I tried my best and I learned a lot from the show. I would have been more aware of myself at panel. I guess I didn't realize my presence was seen so poorly, Or at least I didn't predict that is being the reason for my elimination. I think they saw me as tired and bored in panel. I was tired but I was never bored! More like extremely nervous and I felt awkward being up there.
I figured my walk would kick me off (which obviously didn't help either). I would say I should have practiced walking more, but I just wasn't getting it for some reason. Maybe if I had had an extra week it would have gotten better, because now back at home it looks A LOT different. I can't say it's runway ready, I would need someone else to confirm that. But I don't have the "duck" thing going on anymore! I knew I would get it sooner than later, unfortunately it didn't come to me when I needed it.
Lastly, I would have just let loose more! I let stress and nerves get to me (ESPECIALLY at panel!) and they didn't see the same girl they did at semi-finals and throughout all my auditions. I went from feeling confident, relaxed (or at least being able to fake it real well!) friendly, and outgoing to nervous, scared, and exhausted. My posture probably looked bad because my knees would be shaking so much!
MF: What did you learn from your experience?
LESLIE: So much! I had never modeled before and anything I know now I learned from the show. I learned how to carry and present myself better. I couldn't imagine having walked into an agency with the walk I had before. I would have gotten laughed at much more than what you see on the show! Most importantly I learned I absolutely loved being in front of the camera (and the runway!) it's the biggest rush. It's highly unlikely that I would have pursued modeling otherwise, and I'm so glad I did this show because it really opened up a new passion for me.
MF: Which girl are you rooting for now? Who do you think has the most potential?
LESLIE: Based on looks alone, I think Brooke has the most potential. She reeks model and IMO, fits in best with what's hot in the industry today. Taking on performance into consideration, I would say Danielle. She's been the most consistent and just has it all together. I really do hope the best for all of them though.
MF: So what is next for you? Are you still going to pursue modeling?
LESLIE: Oh definitely! I fell in love with modeling. I will hit up local agencies in Arizona and give myself a couple of months to move to a bigger city (I'm looking at L.A mostly) and look to get signed to a bigger agency there.
MF: Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.
LESLIE: Thank you very much!
