Incredible, heart wrenching, stellar, beautiful, amazing....I could go on and on...and I do! Read on to hear all the highlights of this fantastic tour! You can't miss it! By Jlynn206:

We were on the edge of our seats, desperate for Kelly to come out. We sat respectfully through a heartening few performances by Graham Colton and his band, but honestly could not wait for them to get off the stage and they knew it. After a bit of a wait for the technical staff to set the stage for Miss Clarkson, the lights went down and our hearts leapt in anticipation. This was my third time seeing Kelly live, and each time I get even more excited. This is unarguably her best material to date, and material that she actually wrote a lot of herself.
Finally we heard it, Kelly’s voice echoing out over the crowd, but where was she? We saw her band begin rocking out to “Walk Away,” but where’s Kelly!? Then the platform at the front of the stage rose up, and we saw her. Dressed simply in a black Metallica shirt and some cute black pants, she owned the stage from the second she rose up on it. From the start, I felt more like I was at an Aerosmith concert, and I’ve been to one, so I know. Kelly rocks out so much, and her voice is so raw and gritty, that I would hope that her and Steven might one day do a duet.
Such a change from her schmaltzy turn at the AI tour, because of the material there was this. The Independent tour was all about her voice. This is about her bearing her soul and getting in tune with her inner classic rock. The background for this song was these really large red lips on the screen singing along with Kelly.
Quick to wave at any fan who is flailing their arms at her, Kelly immediately connects to her loving crowd. After a rousing “Walk Away,” and a few adorable comments to the audience, Kelly busted in to “Miss Independent.” If you have seen the last version she did live on AOL music, you’ll know the new funky way she does it. I adore it, and was enamored to get the opportunity to see how funky it was live. She just attacks the song, and has new cool runs to go along with it. Kelly sort of goes into this rock skip around the stage, that could possibly be mildly humorous if it wasn’t so honest and committed.
A combination of lack of vocal rest and pure intensity allows Kelly’s voice to sound much more rock based unlike the crystal clear Kelly some might have grown accustomed to. I love it, and for the most part she is pitch perfect, even on the impossibly high notes. I’m a dance teacher, and I just had my kids at camp dance to Miss Independent, so the whole time I had their moves going through my head.
A beautiful, breathtaking bridge finished off her next number, which was “I Hate Myself for Losing You.” My friend who was with me had her boyfriend of two years break her heart not to long ago. I let her borrow this cd, as most have you have noticed it is the essential break up cd. It’s unfortunate for those of us who manage to be in happy, healthy relationships. I wish I would have had this cd a couple years ago, ya know? Anyway, she rocked this song out, which could be said about pretty much every performance at this show. I know my friend sure felt this number.
After this, she went right into “Low.” I am a big Low fan, and I have to mention that the top note at the end of the bridge was awesome! Right on! Her back up singers by the way are great. The girl has really crazy, floppy, curly hair. Her two guitarists rock out on the sides mostly, and her bass player rocks the middle.
From here she does a couple more off her old cd, which I probably could have done without, but I’m not complaining. I would have preferred “Thankful,” and “Anytime,” but we got “What’s up Lonely,” and “Trouble with Love is.” She bluesed them out a bit more and had some jazzy, gospel like new runs. Many head voice runs, if that means anything to you. I definitely appreciated it. Every time she said, “I’m really getting tired” she added a ya’all. She’s probably the only person who can say that word and it not bother me.
I have to express how awesome Kelly is with her fans. She will hold a pen cap in her mouth while singing to reach down and sign an autograph. She will see you waving like crazy and comment on how cute you are. We were the Orlando concert taped by AOL music, got there to watch it live, so Kelly joked with the crowd when they got so excited about being on camera.
Ahhh….a moment I was waiting for, she burst into “Addicted!” She started acapella and the music slowly came in. She put the mic toward the audience and let us sing along. Everyone was singing along like mad. At this point I began noticing just how cool her pants were, they were kind of like bell bottoms. She went crazy hitting more difficult notes than she even has to do on the cd. Taking things up when they weren’t and such.
I love the bridge on this song, so it was fantastic to hear it live. Her background singers were jamming during this bridge. She added sexy little “yeahs” here and there too. Kelly effortlessly moves from a terrorizing belt to a soft angelic head voice. This is no easy feat. I’ve heard Christina Aguilera struggle a bit with this live every once in awhile, it’s not small feat.
Possibly my favorite song on the cd, “Because of You” was definitely Kelly’s most heartfelt performance. I almost cried, and I am not a crier. She wrote this when she was 16, and had a sweet opening to go with it about how she thinks God wanted her to write this. At the end of the bridge Kelly had to pause for the rousing applause. The background screen showed this adorable little girl dancing and playing, and then went into the little girl crying. It was gut wrenching.
At the beginning of the song, the crowd was singing on so impressively, Kelly said “hello!” and held the mic out. It was in fact impressive how well a whole audience of Kelly fans stay on pitch, it sounded awesome. At the end she let us sing again, and we were honestly so right on that Kelly looked a bit shocked and said “ya’ll are so good!” She continued after the song to say we sounded like her choir and one girl in the audience was like “YEAH!” and pumped her fist in the air. This caused Kelly to laugh quite a bit and say wow that girl must love choir, she’s like CHOIR RULES, and Kelly continued to imitate her. I don’t know if it’s because I had screwed up parents as well so I totally relate to this song, but it was so unbelievably touching live. At the end she mentioned how touched she was that people new all the lyrics to something she wrote when she was so young.
On to the one cover in the show, which was, ‘Why?” This is an Annie Lennox song and Kelly tears it up! If you are unfamiliar with this song, it has a bit of a Sara McGlaughlin feel to it, if Sara could sing like a mo’fo’. There were brilliant harmonies from the background guy singer and one of the guitarists.
Kelly’s voice was stunning on this song, and when the lyrics got faster toward the end I was just in awe. When the song starts, Kelly’s voice is gorgeous and subdued. A big change from the rock out that was the first half of the concert.
This is folk, acoustic Kelly. I wouldn’t mind a Kelly cd in this genre, and I’m not usually a huge fan of folk. I think it’s because in general folk singers are not as vocally talented as Kelly, she brings the folk sound to a whole new level. Kelly is at her best when relying on her voice alone, when it comes down to it, it’s all she needs. Everything else is an added bonus. She put so much heart into this performance she made Carrie Underwood look like a sure fire robot.
Again starting for a moment acapella, Kelly busts into “Where is Your Heart.” She changes the lyrics here and there making them ever more heart felt. She changes up a few of the runs to, as only a consummate performer can. That is the difference between someone who sings, and a singer. Kelly is unpredictable in such amazing ways. The top notes in this song, were rip your heart out good. The bridge was PERFECT! Kelly rocks like Avril can’t, that’s another thought I had during the show. This was just beautiful. I love this song.
What was obvious during this concert is most of her die hard fans are not from American Idol days anymore. While everyone sang knowingly along with all of the lyrics off her second cd, many were unaware of anything off her first cd, even those songs that were hits on the radio. I think this is stellar for Kelly. She is absolutely an artist in her own right, and got her fans through hard work, amazing talent, and dedication.
“Gone” was fun and peppy, with some crazy green sparks in the background. She got the whole audience to jump with her. Then she bounced into a new song that might be on the next cd called “Come Here.” This was the hardest rocking song at the concert, which really gives us a taste of what is to come from Kelly. This is more Aerosmith sounding than anything else during the concert. I’m talking more late eighties Aerosmith obviously. This song has sultry parts and some big notes. The lyrics are a bit more edgy than the usual Kelly, but it’s pretty catchy. She lets her voice go like she smoked a couple packs of cigarettes before the show. While it sounded awesome, it’s not always the best thing for your chords. Seriously, attach some wayward fabric to her mic stand and she was Steven Tyler.
One costume change was all Kelly had. There were big eyes opening and closing during her change. Hazel eyes of course. She came out in the wedding dress from her newest video. I’ve never seen anyone rock out in a wedding dress like this, well except maybe Madonna in the eighties, but I promise Kelly did NOT role around on the floor.
So we chilled to some great floating melodies until the beginning of “Behind these Hazel Eyes” came jamming in. Everyone went nuts!!! It’s obvious that this was the crowd’s favorite song at this time. Kelly rocked the junk out of this!!! She kind of let her vocals go to the wayside, but the song was so loud that she kind of had no choice. Her voice was also tired from so much live singing, a lot of others her age don’t have to worry about that. The crowd didn’t care though, because Kelly sold the heck out of that song. She skipped out on the crazy top note at the end of the bridge, but I don’t blame her. The guitars ROCKED OUT the end!
Kelly’s voice is so frickin’ dead on. She sang “Beautiful Disaster” entirely acapella. The crowd went nuts. It made me wonder if they ever heard the original off “Thankful.” Kelly could put a new version of this at then end of every cd. Maybe her fourth cd she can sing it with an accordion. Anyway, this was stellar. Take that Bo Bice! That’s singing acapella! She let us sing a bit, and I have to say Kelly fans can SING! Kelly had to pause twice for massive amounts of screaming from her fans. Incredible! Even with an hour of singing behind her she sang it perfect!
After this we got to hear another favorite of mine, “Hear Me.” Ew. I didn’t mean that sentence to end up like that. Oh by the way, she changed out of the wedding dress right after “Hazel Eyes” lest you thought she was still in it, which would be odd. Anyway, she sang an abridged version of “Hear Me” because she says she got a lot of flack for not singing it last time around.
Personally, I hope it ends up one of her singles. She said her next one is “Because of You,” which I’m sure will be a smash. But yeah, the end of Hear Me was awesome! This cd is definitely up there with Christina’s stripped at just being so well done and having so many awesome tracks.
Jumping into the audience caused quite a stir during “Since You Been Gone.” Well, especially to those lucky enough to be standing right there. This is where she managed to hold a pen cap in her mouth and sing an autograph while still singing with her mic under her arm. She did change into a Eurthymics shirt hear, I forgot. Every time before she got to the “Since you Been Gone Part” she screamed “WHAT!” and let us say the since you been gone part some of the time. She let the fans on the floor by her sings a bit too. She also let us conveniently sing the hard part of the end of the bridge so she wouldn’t have to….hehe…
One of the fans in the front also threw her a bright pink boa, and she stuck it on and jammed with it for a bit before throwing it back. Then she did a sing back part where we sang back and forth with her. It was hilarious. We got to sing it pretty, in different runs, and like Steven Tyler. Very fun! She ended the song with some adorable facial expressions, a throw back to her “Stuff Like That There” faces. After the song she saw a dragon fly on stage and started discussing it, also amusing.
She made us feel like this might be the end, but anyone paying attention would know we missed her first single of this new cd that shares the same title. Out Kelly came, for her last performance of a heartfelt “Breakaway.” She gave us permission to smack anyone who didn’t know the words, but not to worry every soul in the place did. She waved to the people in the back and said not to worry she sees them, those used to be her seats, which I believe she’s said every concert I’ve seen her.
She really bluesed this one up, and it was kind of an anti-climactic ending, much like Christina ending her tour with “Beautiful,” but a classy ending. The only song she didn’t sing off the new cd was, ‘You Found Me,” which I was grateful, because the other friend I went with can’t bare to hear it. It used to be their song with their ex-boyfriend. SO thank you Kelly for leaving that one out. If you can make it out to this show, it is not to be missed!
I get more emotional at Kelly concerts than pretty much any other time, it’s crazy. Just the fact that she is still the same humble, down to earth person from the first time we met her, and that she has seen so much deserved success is amazing. I have been a Kelly fan from the first moment she opened up her mouth and sang “Respect.” She’s the singer I’ve been waiting for. A girl who I can relate to, with stand out vocals, who the whole world can truly respect. She is kind, loving, and in it for the right reasons. At the end of the concert she told us all “God Bless” and meant it.
