6/13: An experiment in refinement never looked so good!

    Kept
Jerry Hall tries to get a nice American Boy to turn British and be her "kept" man. The set-up is reality tv re-hash but the tasks (and the guys) are surprisingly refreshing!

I watched a marathon of Kept on VH1 this weekend and decided this was a show to tune into on Thursdays. With the bigger contenders off the air (Survivor, TAR, etc), this show does nicely to fill that void, even if it does have a bit of a fluff factor.

The contestants are guys from all over America who are brought together in London to compete for the affections of one ex-SuperModel Jerry Hall. She's much older (shock!) and they are young studly things, ready to be molded. The best part of this show is actually watching Jerry discuss who should stay or go with all her girlfriends. Much better than a panel of judges, imo and Jerry doesn't even have to worry about delivering the news herself--her nasty assistant does it for her!

In the fashion episode, the men have to do a cat walk in designer clothes in front of Jerry, designers and photogs. Some of the outfits are classic, others are a bit on the S&M side. There's an after party in which the guys have to make small talk with everyone, including Jerry's guests. Watching some of them reminds me why 20something's need so much TIME TO GROW! LOL...

Michael is sent home after Jerry describes him as nervous. He actually predicted this, saying he was a computer nerd, not a model. I personally would have ditched the short guy with the nipple rings (Jon), but hey, that's me.

The boys were given a task in the next show to paint a nude and then become nude themselves. What a hoot to watch some of them drop that towel with no thought what so ever while others were wishing they were anywhere else! The paintings were auctioned off and many were interesting to say the least.

Most of the guys are pretty generic, muscled and well tanned. The one that did stand out was Frank--kind of a wrestler guy. He was booted after the painting session, however because Jerry didn't "know him" well enough. I just think she didn't want to end up with a bouncer on her arm.

Next week is some REAL British training in the form of "the country manor". Hunting, riding and basically playing Prince Charles for the weekend. They could find out how horribly dull that kind of life is! The men also start to squabble amongst themselves, which always makes these shows great. Also, I hear in a future installment Mick Jagger himself is going to give the guys a wine tasting lesson. That should be cool.

The only thing that needs improvement is Jerry's delivery during her "narrative"--it sounds very scripted and not at all natural. I really want them to recreate the days of Studio 54 (Jerry's hey-day) and have the gang dance some disco. Just a thought!
