Five times, that's the amount our most talented lady ever makes on this count down! Which Idol winner won't appear at all!? Mwaha! Read on for all the drama and all the excitement! We must keep AI alive! By Jlynn206

A RANK FOUR ALL SEASONS
TOP 46 BEST PERFORMANCES EVER!
Alas, American Idol 4 is over. However shall I survive post-idol depression? More lists of course! This was the most fun and also most positive list as of yet. Everyone on here is amazing, and all of these performances have only positive things about them! Isn’t that grand? Stupendous? Delightful? Delectable? Unbelievably astonishing!? Seriously though, if I’ve offended you in the past, the only possible way I can offend you this time is by omitting one of your favorites entirely. Mwahahaha, read on to find out which American Idol Winner I left off!!! Yes, oh how I have missed the hate mail! Bring it on, yo!
This list is set up the same as the five lists before it. (Looks, Performance, Personality, Vocals, and Worst 46 performances) I start at the least best of the best performances, isn’t it great, I don’t have to say worst of the best, because it is still part of the best! Ah, I feel so refreshed! I feel so optimistic and friendly. My boyfriend, who is studying to be a missionary, would be so proud of my reigned in sarcasm. Anyway, the first number indicates their placement, starting with 46, as we have had 46 performers on AI all together. The number in parenthesis indicates the season they were on. I made it a rule that a performer could not be on here more than five times. Keep in mind this is the most biased list I’ve done yet. Let the festivities begin!
TOP 46 PERFORMANCES EVER:
46. Bo Bice (4) “I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction)”: This was the most fun I’d had with Bo since Whipping Post really. I wasn’t pleased by the difficulty of the judge’s performance selections, but at the very least they were fun. I believe both Bo and Vonzell showed Carrie up out of the three performances. It made me want to smile and dance, which weren’t emotions I felt very often this latest season.
45. Rickey (2) “The Way You Make Me Feel”: No, he didn’t sing this in the actual rounds of the top 32 or the top 12, however, this is one from the Hollywood auditions that I never forgot. I down loaded it, and every time I hear it I am in awe. I just love his voice on this, and we never got to quite hear Rickey at this caliber again until the tour. I loved Rickey!
44. Nadia (4) “That’s the Power”: Nadia came out popping with a song I had never heard before. Making an audience fall in love with a song they had never heard before is no small feat, and is actually what led to Nadia’s eventual demise with a wee little Crystal Gayle number that I personally liked from pre-Idol. Anyway, when Nadia popped out with this, it was like WHOA, watch out for this girl, she means business.
43. Justin Guarini (1) “Sunny”: I’m probably in the minority here, but this was the only Justin performance post Idol 1 that I can still listen to. My roomy and I love it. As soon as we here the first few moments we’re like, AWE! And I don’t even like Justin, so if he can make me like him in this song, that certainly stands out to me.
42. RJ (1) “Lately”: This is his wild card performance that he never quite matched, but it definitely one him a spot in the top ten over some stiff competition.
41. Nadia (4) “Try a Little Tenderness”: This was the other song that when Nadia came out she just grooved, she was shakin’ it and selling it, and I was like whoa mama!
40. Constantine (4) “Bohemian Rhapsody”: At the beginning, I loathed Constantine. Slowly, he grew on me with some great performances and some big risks. This was the biggest risk of all and he made it work. He didn’t just make it work, he made it awesome!
39. Christina Christian (1) “Aint No Sunshine”: Another one I couldn’t stand in the beginning. She had vibrato like a billy goat and it took the better part of the season for her to manage that. However, when she sang this it was smokin’. She did a little belly dancing, and gone was that dreadful vibrato. It was awesome on tour as well, by the way.
38. Kim Locke (2) “New York State of Mind”: Suddenly she was classy, and all it took was a great rendition of a little Billy Joel number. It was mostly all up from here, this performance totally changed her odds at winning the whole thing.
37. Diana (3) “Think”: A 16 year old singing Aretha is a big deal, not to mention she sang her for her original audition as well. Diana tore this up, I listen to it still today and when she hits that highest “freedom” I get goose bumps everytime.
36. Carrie (4) “God Bless the Broken Road” (w/ Rascall Flatts): This performance was just beautiful! Classy! Touching! Something we didn’t get everyday from Carrie.
35. Anthony (4) “Incomplete”: I wasn’t sure which one of his to pick, which made me wonder if I should pick one at all. When he one upped Carrie by singing the same number better, that was huge, but it still wasn’t my favorite of his. He made this backstreet boys tune sound deeply meaningful, he always gives his heart in every performance.
34. Kim L. & Frenchie (2) “Band of Gold”: WHOA! When these two blasted it out, it made everyone else shiver with fear of going after them, as they did go first after lunch. Their other partner even backed out because she didn’t want to sing with them, it would have made her look bad….hehe…that’s the way it oughta be!
33. Mikalah (4) “God Bless the Child”: I know you’re thinking, her, on this count down? No way! However, this performance was one of the classiest I’ve seen on Idol. She tried to emulate it the next week and failed miserably, but I will never forget her, on that stool, in that turtle neck thing, singing her little heart out.
32. Clay Aiken (2) “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch”: This was so much fun. Clay came out and just nailed it. I wanted to jump up and dance, but probably just tapped my foot incessantly!!! This is tied in my mind with, “Build me up Buttercup,” but I didn’t want to put both on there, because they are very similar performances in my mind. I love up-tempo Clay so much. His voice is excellent no matter what, but man he rocks. (and he aint even a rocker)
31. Tamyra Gray (1) “Minnie the Moocher”: Hey folks here’s the story about Minnie the Moocher, she was a low down hoochie coocher, she was the roughest toughest- so yeah, because of Tamyra I know every word to that song. I listened to that over and over and over, and pop it in still do this day. She wore that adorable suit, with that flower poised coyly over her ear, and at the time I was like Kelly better have her number together, cause Tamyra brought the house down! Tamyra had gone first that fateful big band night, and Kelly last, so I sat the whole night being nervous for Kelly for the first time because Tamyra had freakin’ nailed it and was so adorable. Don’t worry, Kelly had nothing to worry about, and I’ll discuss it later.
30. Kim Locke (2) “I Can’t Make You Love Me”: Sob…sniff…sob….my boyfriend and I are having a rough time figuring out the future and I’m PMSing at the same time, so leave me alone. This was a down right classy, flowing, natural performance. She didn’t over sing as she had done with “Rainbow.” She just worked it out, and I really felt it…just like I do now….sniff….sniff…
29. Trenyce (2) “Let’s Stay Together”: Shoot, I just forgot what season Trenyce was on for a moment and almost put 3, but then I realized that was impossible. Could you imagine if Trenyce had been in that season!? Crazy! Anyway, whatshisface….um AL Green I think, even commented that Trenyce sang this song the best he had heard it or something. This got her a solid lock position on wild card night! Come on, it was her and Clay verses Kim and Carmen….
28. Diana (3) “Turn the Beat Around”: I toyed with putting “No More Tears” in this slot for her instead, because she smoked them on disco night, but I had feared Latin night would kill her and she blew it away!
27. LaToya (3) “Don’t Rain on My Parade”: A few of these ladies and Clay could have every performance they ever did and then some on this count down, so I tried to contain myself. However, she hit this one out of the park….ew I can’t believe I said this. She sang this better than Babs, way better. I believe she also sang it again when she was voted off and it was very ironical….I think…
26. Constantine (4) “My Funny Valentine”: Twice!!! Mouralis is on this count down twice!!! Is their no justice in this country!!! Has the congress moved to Tahiti, did the supreme court flee the premises, is the Chief of Staff on hiatus!? Nope, our other rocker just showed us he had a lot more talent that was earlier foreseen. I love this song, and I loved his performance of it. I think it’s one of the best Hart songs written. Even though I once helped a student with it for an audition and the seventieth time started to ware on me, Constantine brought it back with a jazzed up, nifty rendition, AND he hit the last note.
25. George (3) “Lean on Me”: Infectious is what George is! (Infectious does not however describe my summer co-worker who described himself as that while we were introducing ourselves to the new teachers. I do feel infected with something upon his presence, but I don’t think it’s positive) Anyway, George makes me want to give everyone big hugs, and if you know me that is insane!!! When he sang this it warmed my heart. That smile, that George bounce!!! Sigh…he was the only guy with talent that whole season!!! I listen to this one all the time too…..
24. Vonzell (4) “Treat Me Nice”: This is the night (hehe) that both Carrie and Vonzell did a kickin’ up-tempo and a soaring ballad, but Vonzell was the only one who was really flying with out wings, you know? Mwaha. Anyway, this was awesome. I was hoping voters would treat her nice enough to get her all the way….
23. LaToya (3) “Rhythm is Gonna Get You”: All you naysayers who email me about La Toya and her lack of performance skills must be on something. This girl danced. I mean really danced in this number. We have had very few on AI who could dance a bit in their song and not look like they were headed for Six Flags, she takes the cake as the #1 dancer while singing ever. The rhythm got me.
22. Carrie (4) “Independence Day” (acapella): Remember the segment where they blended all 27 of her performances of this song all together and she was in the same key every time? That was impressive! When she sang this in the Hollywood Rounds I was blown away. I think she should of asked to sing this acapella on the actual show, I might have even voted for her once. It was truly incredible.
21. Ejay (1) “I’ll Be”: From obscurity to the top 10, Ejay blew us, the judges, and the competition away with one single, flawless octave jump into his falsetto. Amazing, fantabulous, I am in awe to this day and it still gives me goose bumps. This guy did not deserve to be the first voted off.
20. Clay (2) “This is the Night”: It was the night, I loved the night, he deserved the night, and he lost the night. It was horrifying. Luckily, it didn’t matter, he still out sold Ruben in every way shape and form. But this performance made this song sound important, like it meant something huge like peace for all humanity or something, and still without being cheesy. I listen to this live over and over. Clay’s voice is stunning.
19. Kelly (1) “Respect”: From the second that girl opened her mouth and sang I was sold. She was my girl, I was her biggest fan. Every time after that, she would come out on stage and it was magic. It all started here for our very first American Idol. He hair looked kinda crazy, her outfit could even be called a bit odd, though not as odd as the next one she would wear, but the voice, the facial expression, the performance skills hit me like a ton of bricks. Kelly was it!
18. Jennifer Hudson (3) “Circle of Life”: This is the one performance that sticks out the most with Jenn for me, everything came together on this one. Her voice soared.
17. Kelly (1) “Surrender”: Bronchitis plagued Kelly Clarkson this fateful night, she dead on looked sick. Still, she had two awesome performances that night, despite looking like she might pass out. One was “It’s Rainin’ Men,” the other was this soulful ballad. To me, she not only made it entirely her own, she out sang Celine, while she was sick. Her sickness almost added a desirable husky, haunting element to the song. She held it together through all of that, it was undeniably amazing.
16. Vonzell (4) “Chain of Fools” (either time): Okay, so tell me again why she lost? She’s the best third place competitor we’ve ever had, with Kim Locke shaking her head in shame. She had it all, she was LaToya of season 4. Tamyra of season one. Way too good to be compared to Trenyce of season 2, though Trenyce was down right fantastic live in concert so maybe the comparison is fair. Randy even said this was the best vocals of this song they’d ever heard on this show. That’s with Diana singing it for her initial audition and Fantasia recording it. Go Vonell!
15. La Toya (3) “Somewhere”: I’ve been doing musical theatre since the tender age of who remembers when, and I have never ever heard this song sang like this before. Every note was magical. If LaToya doesn’t go down as one of the greatest vocalists of our time, then there really is no justice.
14. Carrie (4) “Alone”: Unexpected, powerful, surprising, captivating. This is what Carrie was that night. To me, we’d really never see her this on again. I was like, that’s it, she’s won. If she keeps that level of performance she’s won. Well she did win.
13. Tamyra (1) “I Am Telling You”: I am telling you that Tamyra was the first won to perform season one in the top 24 round, and she set the bar freakin’ high!!! I was like, man, why doesn’t everyone else just go home, because I would never get up and try to audition after this girl! When she told me she was staying and I was gonna love her, I totally believed it.
12. Bo (4) “Sweet Home Alabama”: Getting to see Bo perform this with his idols was just magical. I thought that there was no way after he did that, Carrie would win. Thinking back, I could be way wrong, but I think the last person to sing before they announce it is never the winner. Can anyone remember if I’m right?
11. Kelly (1) “Natural Woman”: Enough said, if you saw the performance. If you didn’t, shame on you! Kelly came out in the cutest costume ever seen on idol, except maybe her big band night dress, and she sang so incredibly. If I remember correctly she did a two octave jump to hit a note that was entirely out of my range all together. After that night, Kelly went from possible under dog to front runner, and there was no stopping her.
10. Bo (4) “Whipping Post”: Never had we seen something like this on Idol. It was refreshing and shocking. We had a true rocker on our hands. A guy who could make the Allman Brothers sell on pop radio. Whoa.
9. Kelly (1) “Stuff Like that There”: Adorable. I think that’s the only time I use that word in this whole article, but that’s what Kelly was. It was like she was Brenda Lee and Theresa Brewster, and Connie Francis, and Betty Hutton, who sang it originally all rolled into one. That polka dot dress, the cute little pops she did on the beat, the cute facial expressions. Watch this performance and tell me Kelly just stood there and sang oh you silly emailers. By the way, this is the one that blew Tamrya away on a night where Tamyra also did amazingly well.
8. Vonzell (4) “With You I’m Born Again” (with Billy Preston): It did feel like it was grammy night, and Vonzell was about to win for best record of the year. So out of the top three singing with their idols, she wins it all. Her voice was so fresh that night, and so beautiful….sitting on that piano…she has got to go far. Or else! That’s right! That’s a threat America!
7. Fantasia (3) “Summertime”: I grit my teeth and put this here. I can’t comment.
6. Diana (3) “Don’t Cry Out Loud”: The key change is key here folks. She held out that note over the key change and than brought it on up without having to take another breath. I wanted to hug Clive Davis for picking the most amazing song for Diana. This is her song now. I got chills.
5. Anwar (4) “What a Wonderful World”: His only appearance on the count down and he’s in the top 5. He took an old number we’ve hear a thousand times and put a new, dynamic spin on it. The best I’ve ever heard that song sung ever. I thought he was going to win it all after that…
4. Tamyra (1) “A House is Not a Home”: At this point, I was entirely devoted to Kelly, so much so that I couldn’t even barely pay attention to Tamyra anymore. Sure she was awesome too, and I’d buy her cd, but I was all about Kelly. That said, this was the second best performance of the entire season. Truly incredible. Ruben and Anwar have tried to sing this song since, to no avail.
3. Clay (2) “Bridge Over Troubled Water”: I didn’t think there was any way Ruben could win after Clay did that…
2. LaToya (3) “All By myself”: The break out performance that season. We’d never really met LaToya before, but she managed to sing the most raw, heart felt, better than Celine performance ever heard on the American Idol stage. I was in awe for the next month. I still can’t get over it. She actually hits a high G sharp. Do you have any idea what that means people!!!!
1. Kelly (1) “Without You” (second time): At this point Kelly’s voice was tired, and the first time she had sang the song had been awesome, but not Kelly’s best. She turned around and sang it 50 times better than the first time the night Nikki left. Simon even ignored the fact that Nikki was departing and told Kelly that was the best performance of the entire season, and it was. In fact, as you can see, I personally think it was THE best performance out of all four seasons. Absolutely stellar vocally, and she felt what she was singing. Carrie should take lessons from Kelly. What do you think?
This was my longest article yet because I had so much to say about each and every performance! Was one of your favorites left off? I want to hear about it you must Email me.
What we learned:
(1)Season 4 had 16 slots filled on this list!
(2)Season 3 had 10 slots filled on this list! (mostly on account that I don’t like Fantasia)
(3)Season 2 had 8.
(4)Season 1 had 12!
(5)Kelly and Clay take the crown of top female and top male!
Let me know what you think!
