Tom said at the finale he was sitting there as the votes were read & he couldn’t move. He was lost in the moment. He was trying to see his wife to see if she was smiling or frowning cuz he couldn’t hear Jeff Probst.

Kelly asked if he prepared himself beforehand that he might lose. Tom said he was guardedly optimistic. He thought he played a clean enough game that he would get respect & the jury’s votes. But it is a tough thing cuz the jury could just think they you are the one that put them in the jury instead of being in the Final 2. He said the show has been unpredictable in the past as to who wins. He is a big fan of the show & watches all the time.

Regis mentioned that he is a NYC guy & he went to a rival school of his. Tom know lives on Long Island & has been a fireman for 20 years. Kelly said he is the oldest winner of ‘Survivor’. Tom said he has had people tell him that they have stopped coloring their hair cuz of him & people said that he beat guys half his age for a guy in his 50’s [Tom is 41 & that was a joke].

Tom said it just went his way. He was able to hide behind his gray hair for awhile & then he was out in the open & they didn’t see it coming.

He hopes his fellow fireman are watching. He hasn’t seen the tape of their live feed reaction on the show. He said the support he has gotten from them has been unbelievable. He did get a call from his House’s Commissar cuz the guys pay for everything in the house & he was told he is now behind on his House Tax.

They showed a picture of him w/ a beard & compared it to the clean shaven guy today. Kelly said he is easily the best-looking guy to ever come out of the show. Tom was flattered & said it is a good day.

Tom said he didn’t think he kids really cared that he was on the show but then he would hear from a teacher that his son was telling her what shoes he was going to wear to the finale & so on. He said his wife is the woman behind the man & she should have been there for him to pass the check to cuz she pays the bills. He said now she will have more to pay them with. Tom was planning before he went what his strategy would be & was deciding what past winner to model his game after & his wife told him to just be himself & they won’t see the physical coming.

He went right back to work when he got back. No one in his town recognizes him & the guys don’t care how he did on the show. They just care how he did on the last job. He said there is a window of opportunity now that he has done the show & has been on the job 20 years so he could make a move. His wife is like any fireman’s wife & would like him to get out & play it safer. Bit he doesn’t know if he can find something he loves as much. He will take baby steps.
