Greetings,
I am not going to do my belated piece of the results from Wednesday night as I usually do. The reason I did not post the results is that I had my last final exam for the year until academic studies resume in September. So sorry I am late, but my last final exam in Crime Victims took precedence to Anwar’s departure. This article is owned by <a href=”http://www.mediafiends.com/”>MediaFiends.com & may not be reproduced without permission.
Last night I went into forum and groups and read the comments on Anwar’s departure, some people were totally upset and outraged and some were gleeful, because he wasn’t their choice and his departure resulted in their favourite person to win stay of execution for at least one more week. Some folks cited racism and bias. For example one lady said (she is 66 years old btw) that she noted that AI are very slowly getting rid of the Afro American people, she reasoned her notion with the following: She said that AI already has a Afro American man and women who won the title, in Reuben and Fantasia, and they have a Caucasian winner in Kelly, now they would need a male Caucasian winner to balance out the results of AI winner. I don’t know what I think about that assertion, however, Sir Elton John did say last year that America was racist when Fantasia, Latoya and Jennifer landed in the bottom three, resulting in the demise of Jennifer Hudson. Elton John thought that the bottom three then were the best of the competition.
I have noticed that despite all the protests of AI producers that nothing is fixed, they seem to go from one gender to the next each year unlike Canadian Idol who has had two male winners. To clarify, Kelly Clarkson won the first year, and the next year Simon said a guy should win it, the final competition was between Reuben and Clay. In AI’s third year, Simon said a girl should win it resulting in the sing off between Fantasia and Diana DeGarmo. This year Simon said a guy should win it, and if you notice there is only two gals left in Carrie and Vonzell and predominately four guys left all of them Caucasian. Therefore, I am wondering if the different opinions of people are relevant to the facts based above. How is it that Canadian idol ended up with two male winners and AI sorts out the winners by gender and race? How is it that Ai has managed to every year balance out the winners? Is it just coincidence? or is the results predetermined by gender and race?
Still in my lurking position on other forums and just talking generally to people who watch the show in my local neighbourhood and community, some feel that the way that AI allows the public to vote more then once is what the problem is; and they cite the unfairness of AI taking the position that any person is entitled to more then one vote for the same person is ridiculous and unfair to others.( there is no way of saying that this way of voting is fair, because nobody can match another in votes, if Jane Doe votes 100 times and John Doe votes 101 times for the same person then John Doe has outvoted Jane Doe’s right to her voice through her vote) How is the present voting system of AI fair?
If you notice, Ryan did not tell us how many votes were called in, this week! – Could it be that the votes were lower then he previously bragged about?
Perhaps people are truly bored with AI and have opted for to take in the nicer weather then sit around and watch a boring show, yes AI this year has some fans thinking that the show is boring and they would much rather be doing something else then watch pitiful renditions, and obnoxious and suspicious behaviour from the Judges (specifically Paula Abdul). My own thoughts on Anwar’s departure are that he was a good singer but I do not think he was the best singer on the stage. On the other hand, the themes this year have been off beat, off base, uninteresting, dull, boring, flat and uninspiring! There are no guest judges instead we get to see Ryan get his star! (I just want to know what is it that Ryan has done in his hosting career that would gain him that star! for the life of me, I cannot think of anything that would give him that recognition).
I just don’t think that this years competition was its best nor did AI try to make it a stunning year to remember, I know many have said they often find themselves reminiscing about the last three years and want to forget about this year completely. The producer’s changes has been flamed, boiled, and buried by many who call it a miss of the target audience. Why reinvent what was already a hit? The absence of the guest judges are pretty relevant, they had the knowledge and experience to key in for each competitor what they could do with their voices to make their presence known in the competition. Guest judges like Sir Elton John, Barry Manilow, Ashford and Simpson,Donna Summer (who could of showed them how to sing Disco) is what is lacking and missing on this year’s show. The guest judges that were compromised of singers, writers ect… and they were invaluable assets to the competitors and the show itself. (God knows that the stunned ones cannot give them the tips, experience, and knowledge that the guest judges possessed). In addition, the guest judges would put Simon in his place, when he got out of line (which he often does). This year’s show themes are failures in my and many other people’s opinion!
In the prelimanary rounds, the judge’s let an awful lot of excellent singers go over some that they kept for the final twelve. The judges did that because of what character and personality? If this is a singing competition then the character of the person will be more defined as they go on with the experience of being on the show.
Anwar was said to be by two of the AI judges technically the best singer in this year’s competition, what exactly does this mean? That he was the best singer but lacking in something? Anwar Robinson’s departure was inevitable based on many things, however I do not think that this year’s themes allowed any of the finalists to show off their vocals to its highest potential. Anwar may have not made idol winner (he looked somewhat relieved to me) but he did show us what exemplary class act he was in his stage presence and eloquence. I believe what Fantasia said that everyone will end up getting a contract so run with it Anwar!
One last note: I have read the article on Paula’s excuses for interrupting others and dancing, I am very sorry I don’t think that Paula’s actions have anything to do with her said physical medical condition, it’s more likened to mental condition in her character and personality traits. The interruption of others while they are speaking, by cutting them off, over talking them is very rude not to just that person but to us the public and really I for one am tired of her doing this week in and week out. Dancing and carrying on has NOTHING TO DO WITH A MEDICAL CONDITION, SO PLEASE PAULA FEED THAT BULL TO SOMEONE THAT MAY BE WILLING TO BELIEVE IT!
The persnickety journalist is signing off, have a good week folks.
