The show opens with Ryan dressed in an unflattering, dismal jacket; he looked like he put himself together in five minutes with ruffled hair and stubby cheeks. He proclaims the votes are in America and another dream is ending. (now maybe their dream of AI win is ending but not their dream of having a musical career). Ryan laments it is the second to last show for the month, but the last show for one of the nine idols. The votes are in and someone is out! By Arne

Then he says as if he really cares!? We are not looking forward to losing someone? After carrying on with his voice of doom, he perks up and says! But it is not all bad; the reining Queen of AI Fantasia is here, Sheeeeeeeeee's Backkkkkkkkkkkkkkk! As an afterthought he said, and here are the three people that put her though the ringer, (he introduces the Stunned ones. (Randy, Paula, and Simon). He also related to us somewhere among his rhetoric that there were 32.8 million votes last night.
Ryan asks ? Who was the star of the show for you America?? Now that is an interesting question they never tell us who received the highest number of votes so technically we don't know who was the star of each show! He introduces my girl Fantasia Burrino who comes out with her powerful voice singing for us Truth is! Fantasia did not disappoint us and she brought down the house when she mixed up, Truth is with her winning Idol song, I believe. Oh yessssssssssssss, she received a standing Ovation, which she rightfully earned. Fantasia Burrino is a powerhouse in vocal and performance, she brings to us her heritage of being black, being proud of being black, and mixes her unique voice with gospel, blues, soul and at times she put some funk into her songs. Fantasia is what African Americans are about, we are soulful, we have struggled and we have always through our heritage brought the depths of the black struggle into our voices, through our music and our songs! Black Gospel is the parent and root to the creation of rock and roll! Fantasia made me remember what was lacking in this years AI.
Clearly as much as some of the contestants have beautiful and powerful voices, they simply are not exciting enough. They bring it with their voices but they are somewhat flat in their performances. For example, last year we had the dream theme group of Fantasia, Diane, John P Lewis, George, Latoya, Jon Stevens, Jennifer, John, Camille, Jasmine, and Amy. (There were twelve but these ten are the reason that AI3 was so great) There was heavy competition, everyone wanted to win and be the AI winner.
In AI2, we had the Ruben, Clay, Josh, Kim Locke, ect group? again they wall wanted to win. There was a weekly battle by past AI competitors to stay on another week and come into our living rooms. The fan forums were burning with hot debates and even arguments.
This year! We just get borderline, flat, uninteresting and boring shows. I would not place the blame just on the performers I think what is lacking is the themes that they picked this year. So far, it has not been good; we have had no guest judges. The themes of past idol shows may it be Rock and Roll, Blues, Motown, Elton john renditions, ect… they were exciting and these specific type of musics make people want to join in and sing and dance.
This years show for the exception of the opening so far leaves a lot to be desired! One can practically be put to sleep! I really think that AI producers erred this year with the changes, and perhaps they should try to do something now about it! Fantasia came out and really allowed us to see what we are missing in AI this year. She had energy as we saw in all the competitors from AI 2 & 3.
Ryan come out and says wow that was fantastic! He then shares with us that Fantasia has sold over one million copies of her album. I confess I am one of the holders of Fantasia's album, its well worth your money and unlike some half baked albums out there you will like every song she has on the album. Ryan asks Fantasia if she has any tips for the present competitors, she said in Burrino style, yes, come out and act UGLY!!! have a good time and if they didn't make it on idol, that their experience here opens doors. Fantasia said with pride that every one of last years Competitors have a contract and that the competitors need to take their experience on idol and run with it! I felt like our reining queen of AI said some truthful encouraging words for the present competitors. Ryan also takes the time to let us know that Ruben Studdard was in the house and in the audience. Then he says that we will be slicing and dicing what America decided after the commercial break.
After the commercial the idolers did their group thing singing together; the one thing I do notice is that this year competitors actually really sound good together when they sing as a group. Usually these video songs are silly, but somehow they do make it work as a group.
Ryan glides back on our screen and then says okay lets get to it! (Ryan really has finesse when he is about to drop the bomb on someone). He quickly tells Nikko, Vonzell, and Scott that they are in the bottom three.
He then goes to Bo and asks him if he is shocked that they are there and not himself? (what a stupid question, what did he think Bo was going to say, no he wasn’t shocked because he was the bestest of the best!) Bo had the intelligence to play it down for all of us.) I think he also knows that it is crucial that he does because some fans may decide they do not like him after all if he becomes too cheeky and self-assured of the win. Bo ran it through with the kudos to the bottom three (not that it made a difference they were still in the bottom three). He said that all three had done a great job last night).
Ryan then goes to Anthony (who was not bright enough to do what Bo did) Anthony started to show us what a BUTT KISSER HE IS AND A BROWN NOSER AT THAT! HE AGREED WITH SIMON HE SAID! (Then we get to see Simon smiling like a cat nodding his head in approval). Anthony may be safe this week, but will he be next week? (He may of successfully p/o’d some of those that thought he was aight! I really cannot stand a brown noser; they have no spunk in my eyes.
After another commercial break, Ryan starts delivering the bad news to one of the bottom three. He tells Scott and Nikko to remain standing and tells Vonzell to go have a seat! Scott looked somewhat upset I noticed that Nikko had looked at him, smiled or giggled and put his hand on Scott’s shoulder.
After another commercial break (so they can prolong the agony of the two guys sweating it out on stage) Ryan says Scott you are (pause more drama and suspense, sigh) safe. Scott looked like he was teary eyed. Nikko you are going home. Nikko took it like a man, and as he said he did his best, and he will not let it stop him from his career and sending out his message and voice and music to those fans of his that would love to see him with an Album.
What I did not like is that because of all of Ryan’s one-liners we had to see Nikko’s last song cut off before it should have been.
I did not bother to say what the judges thought of the bottom three because I think Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest are stunned anyhow, I just didn’t care what they thought, they’re boring me to tears! Nikko did not deserve to be in the bottom three this week, however for those Nikko Smith fans you can take solace in knowing that now that Nikko is out, his fans that voted for him will revert their votes to someone else. Somehow its just a suspicion I don’t think a majority of those votes will be going to those competitors that were more deserving of being in the bottom three and even out. Its crunch time for these last eight, because every time someone is eliminated their fans will allocate their votes to someone else. Nikko was the first male out of this year's competition, but I do not think it is the last we will see of Nikko; he will rise again like a Phoenix and give us a CD to remember! Until next week folks, the persnickety journalist is signing off!
