After viewing extended boardroom footage, my faith in 'The Donald' 's superior business sense seems a little lost. By Jennifer Irby

After reading my first Trump article, my husband reminded me of my faithful viewing of (now I'm ashamed to say it...) Andy Dick's The Assistant on MTV. I'm sorry but that guy cracks me up and it was such fun because when Andy took it seriously, the show got even funnier. I hadn't laughed this hard since, I don't know, my cat fell off the deck and landed in the pool. Such a far cry from The Apprentice.
Which leads me to the extended boardroom footage that was aired on Saturday night on NBC. The Donald, armed by the ever faithful George (remember the teaser for next week's episode - don't annoy George!) and Caroline, showed again why he's king of the boardroom. Although he carefully allows each woman her say, he comes off with sound business sense but sometimes it's hard for me to follow it.
For example, Trump obviously respects Pamela enough to put her in the line of fire by making her project leader for Apex. She does have a tough love leadership style although her team dogs her from the get-go - "she doesn't have to lecture us....we're her age...".
So she has troubles from the beginning as we expected. She makes some hard decisions about the price of the product and at first I thought that Lil' Stacy didn't contribute her part and of course I find out later that in the extended footage that I was wrong. Not only did we see that Lil' Stacy want a different price, but Ivana also spoke up. Was that the only error that Pamela made? Trump thinks not.
Her team members call her leadership style calm, cool, and collected; fair; direct; nothing too derogatory. She, in turn, complements them on their various tasks or at least she doesn't trash them. She does lean in on Lil' Stacy but when questioned on who she would want to represent her as an attorney, Pamela undisputably, said Stacy and Jen M for business.
I will not write further on the whole boardroom drama as I know it's already been aptly done more than once. The final issue was this: did Pamela utilize the teams' skills to the best of their ability? Trump said no. When the team first met and after Pam gave her I don't care how you use to do it speech, she asked them about their specialties. We see later as she assigns tasks, she also asks them what they would like to handle.
How could Team Apex cry "Foul!" when they themselves said I want to do this, I want to do that? Weren't they just saying this because they lost and they were eager to put Pamela on the chopping block (or whatever it's called)?
Assessing skills and assigning responsibilities is a must for business. It's like having a kind of sense for people my father would say. It's a critical must have skill and Trump knows it. He's built businesses on this principle and, unfortunately, it can't be taught in college. I would have certainly signed up for it.
So, my faith was shaken a little, but restored and I am further entrenched into watching this show and growing a tiny respect for 'The Donald'.
