I can only wonder if this is AI’s way of making us perk up and watch the round of 8’s more closely next year. Half of the top 4 were a great, and I mean, great surprise; Latoya and Jasmine. I know I don’t need any prodding to watch AI myself, but maybe AI thinks everybody else does or maybe they didn’t even know how good these two were. The funny thing is, the odds makers knew about Jasmine. They had her ranked #2 behind Fantasia before the competition (Round of 8’s) started. And when we saw her AI headshot, she looked like a 14 year old with braces. You know, just a cute throw in to complete the top 32.

Jasmine became one of my favorites when she sang “Run to Me” the first time in the round of 8. The second time she sang it, on the results show, she graduated to my favorite. (Diana would eventually take over my favorite spot but for the first five weeks or so Jasmine pretty much owned this spot) In a way, Jasmine reminded me of Carmen from last year. Just like Carmen, when she sang with no pressure on, she sang much, much better. Her second performances of “Inseperable”, “The Way You Look Tonight”, “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” and “Run to Me” showed how good she could really be. I almost looked forward to her being in the bottom rung just so I could hear her sing her best. I absolutely love the tone of her voice. And when her CD comes out, and it will, I will buy it, sound unheard. Jasmine will be wildly successful in Hawaii at first, then the rest of the country. I suspect she will sell 300,000 + the first week in Hawaii alone. I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it. She single handedly was able to get almost 50% of the TV’s that were on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Hawaii tuned into Idol.

Jasmine is also beeeautiful! With a capital bea and a capital utiful. Just to look at her is a pleasure in itself. She always captivated us with that radiant smile and gracious thanks to the judges and the audience. To my eye, the loveliest ever on Idol. I actually liked her better without the flower. She could easily become a model. I know a lot of people think the Miss America pageant is bogus, but I think Jasmine should give it a shot. I’m sure she could win Hawaii and we know she has awesome talent. Heck, look at Mary Tyler Moore and Vanessa Williams. Not to shabby.

Jasmine had a great run but the lack of experience, and age, I believe is what got to her. It is a grueling thing to do that show and compound it with schoolwork, just a bit overwhelming. Diana, though younger, had about 10 years of experience performing and doing shows and it was easy to tell. Almost too easy for Diana, and few times it almost cost her. Jasmine will get the experience and she will get the recording contract. I will follow her career closely as many, many fans will. Jasmine, I salute you and can’t wait to see you on the AI stage here in Atlanta.

One more question: Who was that girl we never got to see in the auditions? It was Jasmine and we all know her now.
