The long-awaited Temptation Island III has finally arrived, and this season looks to be as tempting as the previous...
Last night I found myself already getting nervous for some of the craziest people on earth living in Paradise. Beautiful setting, beautiful singles, beautiful disaster. The purpose is to find out who can be tempted and who's relationship is strong enough to withstand naked bodies and unlimited alcohol and solve the problems in your relationship.
Hmm. Sounds like a great potential for advertising anti-anxiety drugs on commercials..
Quick synopsis on the players for this season:
Melissa and Michael from Long Island, NY. She's Miss NY, he lives with his parents (hmmm, I already hear the therapist talking)
Stephanie and Anthony from Chicago- we know they met at a bar and she is a fighter and a lover, and he is just as pretty as she is..
Kristen and Eric, from Virginia, the Frat Boy and the Freshman. Need I say more?
Kara and Jason from Las Vegas, the tattooed Vin Diesel and the woman who keeps him in line..
The trouble begins with Mark Wahlberg's first smile, and we see these couples wondering how the hell they thought his was a good idea. Mark welcomes them to what they should be expecting for the next 16 days: 2 boatfuls of 28 hot, single men and women pulling up to the dock.
The women smile and seem to take the introduction of the singles in stride--after all, they have yet to to realize that their men will be rubbing on all these beautiful women.
The men don't look so at ease-Most noticeably uncomfortable is Michael, Mr. NY, who looks as if lunch is coming right back up.
In true Temptation Island style, we receive the first bomb drop of the season:
After having the opportunity to feast their eyes on the bare skin surrounding them, it is revealed to the women that each of the singles has had an opportunity to view a videotape of each of their boyfriends, and they are going to be recieving a bracelet from each single chicky who found their man to be most attractive.
Finally Tally: Kristen: 3 for Eric, Kara: 7 for Jason, Stephanie: 4 for Anthony.
Oh yeah--Melissa gets zero. Nothing for Michael. Poor guy. I bet his Mom is disappointed.
The men then get the same suprise, and each one of their women proves to be pretty popular with the new testosterone on the island. Most popular of the new single Tempters is Jeff, who in full macho glory pretends to give Jason his bracelet and then pulls it back with a mature "Sike"! Jason is not happy. I wonder how long it would take until Jason was tossed from the Island for Assault and Battery but alas, this is only the first episode.
The couples are then reunited to compare the results, and Michael is astounded to discover that he has not been picked by anyone. His sadness is compounded with the announcement that the last 5 minutes they will be spending with each other has arrived.
No tearful goodbyes--perhaps the couples have learned how not to part horny after seeing that almost no one has survived this show. Through the night we discover that at the men's camp Michael is campaigning to convince all the women that King Dork on the videotape is not the same man they have in front of them now. I don't really believe him?
The women rehash all the reasons that they are doing this, what they hope to accomplish, and what they think will happen. Blah blah blah. Thats right ladies! This was a good idea to put your committed boyfriend with a bunch of scantily clad girls...I'll bet there was not a whole lot of sleep as all the couples go to bed as singles.
On Day Two the "Show and Strut your Stuff around the Pool" party begins. We now have names to place to the abs and breasts of yesterday. After having the opportunity to hear what the singles had to say, the couples are then asked to eliminate who they perceive as the biggest threat and block them from their significant other.
Michael blocks Melissa from Ian, and Melissa blocks him from Tanaya. Yawn.
Kara blocks Jason from Amy, and if you didn't figure it out by now Jason blocks her from Jeff, only after he tries to make him flinch for the Sike comment from the day before. It doesn't work.
Anthony blocks Stephanie from Derrick the model because he's a model, and Stephanie blocks him from Tiffany. Anthony, that little Romeo, states that he likes all women so he isn't concerned about being blocked from Tiffany. Aw, he's a keeper.
Lastly Eric blocks Kristin from Ryan because he is nice, and Kristin blocks Maria because she seems confident. Boring! Be serious people--its all about the looks!
After the selection, Mark drops the bomb and asks all the people who were selected to be blocked to walk out onto the dock and get on the boat. What? They are all leaving? Besides Jason-who looks like he will start screaming that he is the king-, everyone else looks shell shocked. The pool party ends and all the couples are sent back to their respective islands to start drinking away their worries and ponder what could be next.
Nighttime rolls around, and Mark welcomes all the men who have been asked to gather around the token campfire and discuss the perceived eliminations from earlier in the day. The men tend to have mixed feelings about the selection, revealing that all of them are already strategizing and wondering if their choices from earllier in the day are going to come back and bite them in the pants. The men--especially Jason--are worried that the competition was not eliminated, but actually will be chosen at the first date for their women.
Is it foreshadowing? I think it is!
Worst fears are confirmed, and Einstein Jason is right--their women are going on dates with the eliminated men--the best part is the single men had no idea and discovered this at the same time as the boyfriends.
Remember Michael's sick face earlier? Jason's is twice as bad as he watches Jeff laugh uncontrollably at the instant Karma that just smacked Jason on his cheek. I hope they sell Tums and Advil on the island...or a straightjacket..
That wraps up the first episode of what promises to remind us that an island of hotties can be your worst nightmare. Stay tuned for next week when tears, fears, and flinching continue!
