    *Indicates confessional scene

The pledges are on the verge of initiation and frustrated that they are so close yet so far away. Brooke and Nicole ease away some of their anxiety in the hot tub. Brooke predicts that the sisters of DZO give the pledges a whole new schedule for next week—given if you will remember from last week the pledges had snooped to find out the exact date of initiation. *Nicole complains that they don’t know the exact date of initiation, so everyone is getting nervous and frustrated. *Brooke complains that pledging is really time-consuming, she’s sick of all the girls and she just wants to get back to normal life.

Janel has planned a pledge event to a UB football game the next day, but she is nowhere to be found, so Melissa calls her to tell her that the pledges are just sitting around waiting for her. But there is no answer. Maggie tries again and leaves another message, while Maggie continues to paint a poster for the game. *Maggie admits that it’s really annoying to have to go to an event, when they can’t even find the person who organized the event. *Janel explains that she hasn’t been answering the phone, because she has been trying to figure out whether or not to cancel the event given that it’s raining.

The phone rings. It’s not Janel, it’s Julia, but there is an update. Julia tells Melissa that the event to the football game is cancelled, but instead Janel is going to come over to the pledge house between 1:00 and 1:30. The new event will be making Janel lunch and coffee. Melissa relays this news to Maggie. Maggie looks like she’d like to serve Janel a bit ol’ sh!t sandwich for lunch, so she storms out of the room in frustration. *Melissa just wants pledging to be over. Maggie calls Brooke to tell her the change in plans. Janel has cancelled the football game, since it’s raining. So instead of a poster that reads, “DZO loves UB football” (note: this poster is already done), Janel wants a poster that says, “DZO loves UB athletics.” And she wants all the pledges to cook her lunch. Maggie slams done the phone wondering what “Princess Janel” would like for lunch.

Julia is preparing lunch Later there is a knock at the door. It’s Janel. *Janel admits that she is restrictive of the pledges, but it’s kind of like sports…the pledges are rookies who need to be shown the way and feel like they earned their letters. Meanwhile Maggie and Brittany paint a new sign. *Maggie loves Janel, but this pledge-sister relationship thing is really annoying. Julia made Spanish rice and chicken for lunch. *Janel commented that it was very delicious. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough chicken to let everyone have lunch—Janel gives a shrug and continues to stuff her face. *Brook prays for initiation to be Friday. On the phone to her friend Amy, Brooke continues the whining saying that she wants out, she wants freedom, she wants to be done, and I want her to shut up.

Next morning *Janel explains that the DZOs have a surprise for the pledges to relieve some of the stress of pledging. They’ve planned a trip to New Orleans. As the girls load suitcases that are clearly more than they need for a two day trip into the airport shuttle, Melissa stays the obvious—the trip is going to be really fun. *Julia anticipates a great deal of dancing and partying. As an added bonus, snow begins to fall in Buffalo. *Bridgette continues to build on Melissa’s restatement of the obvious…warm…la-la-la…partying…la-la-la…amazing.

Seconds later we are with the girls taking a group photo in New Orleans. *Maggie hopes that everyone will relax and just enjoy the two days that they have to just enjoy each other’s company. After a few shots of the girls walking around Lafayette Square, *Melissa points out that Brooke and Nicole tend to exclude themselves—if they only wanted to hang out with each other, then they shouldn’t have joined a sorority. Isn’t that being a bit extreme, Melissa?

I guess not, because after their day touring the French Quarter, Talia calls a meeting to tell everyone that they need to stick together when they go out and not to go running off alone. Whatever. *Brooke dreads this order, because it turns everything into a process. So they load up on the bus to go on a swamp tour. On the airboat ride, the tour guide finds a baby gator, and I mean baby it was about 6 inches long, but the girls still managed to squeak out a few screams. The girls proceed to take a few cameos with the baby gator. *Brooke comments that all of this togetherness is getting really suffocating.

The evening is marked by partying, beads, more group photos, Nicole and Brooke separating themselves and a trip to the House of Blues. Now, I’ve never understood why people go on vacation only to end up in large chain restaurants / clubs, but I guess that’s just me, because the DZOs definitely loaded up at the House of Blues gift emporium. *Laura notices that Brooke and Nicole have really only been spending time with each other and comments that they need to make more of an effort to spend time with everyone. *Nicole says that she just relates to Brooke better than she relates to the rest of the sisters.

That evening back at the hotel, we find out that Brooke, Nicole and Melissa are sharing a room that has two beds. Brooke and Nicole have decided to share a bed, and Melissa asks if they are all sleeping in the same bed. Nicole responds no and *explains that they though Melissa would choose a bed by herself if given the option. This is not the case, and Melissa announces that she is going to sleep in the other room, because she doesn’t want to sleep by herself. *Melissa is bothered by the fact that Brooke and Nicole automatically assumed that they would sleep in the same bed—is this for real? Brooke jokes with Nicole that they can spend the evening spooning, and Nicole runs into the bathroom in disgust. I guess that’s only for Tim. *Melissa doesn’t want to be around them when they are together, because they exclude everyone else.

Melissa goes to the other room, and Brooke appears shocked, so she follows Melissa to ask where she was going. *Brooke questions who doesn’t want their own bed if given the option? Melissa comes back to the room and tells Nicole and Brooke that since they want to be alone, she is going to go sleep in the other room. Wow, this is really getting childish. Nicole and Brooke try to explain that they just assumed that she’d rather have her own bed. Now I’m not sure that I understand Melissa’s logic, but Melissa says that Brooke and Nicole assumed that they would share a bed, because they are always together. Nicole says, “Yeah, so what is the problem?” Melissa shrieks that there is no problem, when it appears that there is, and then she storms out of the room. *Nicole summarizes (thank God) that Melissa feels like Brooke and Nicole didn’t want her there, which was not the case. Melissa tells Brooke and Nicole that every single person in the sorority thinks that they only hang out with each other. *Melissa just thinks that they should get to know everyone. *Laura comments that they should be mature enough to work out these differences. I think that this whole little scene should have been edited out, because someone (a.k.a. Melissa) was on a PMS-induced over emotional low.

Melissa retreats back to the other room and relays the story to the other sisters and pledges in the next room. However, she did not completely close the door to the adjoining room, so Brooke and Nicole can hear every word that she says. *Brooke gets really annoyed by people who talk behind her back—especially when her back is right there. Brooke decides to confront the situation, so she goes to the next room and announces that they can hear everything. Melissa says that she is not trying to start a fight with Brooke or Nicole, and Brooke says fine, but next time she wants to talk about an issue that she has with Brooke or Nicole, then try to talk about it with them as opposed to the sisters in the next room.

Melissa again retreats to the other room. *Nicole repeats the following events as they happen on screen. Melissa finds some older sisters to relay the whole story of “Brooke and Nicole are being mean to me”. Rather than listen from inside the room, Nicole comes out to join in the conversation. *Brittany thinks that Nicole is throwing a great deal of attitude around, e.g. with the arms swinging and the head bobbing, and she is looking for a fight. (Author’s note: Brittany might be the closest thing to trailer park trash that I’ve ever experienced.) After a few confrontational words, Melissa announces that she just wants to go to bed, so the sisters disband. But before Nicole leaves, Brittany tells her that they are a f#$%ing group, and she should act like one. (I’m sorry, Brittany, who is looking for the fight?) Nicole throws up her hands in disgust and walks away. *Brittany’s anger stems from Nicole’s treatment of Melissa.

Rather than go back to the room and go to bed, Brittany creates more drama by returning to the room openly bad-mouthing Nicole and threatening to kick her a$$. Nicole and Brooke can clearly hear the whole thing. *Brooke thinks that the whole scene is unnecessary. Brooke comes to Nicole’s defense, goes into the next room and tells them that anyone who wants to get to Nicole will have to come through her. Melissa begs Brooke to drop it and go to bed. Brooke yells that she won’t leave, just so they can go back to talking sh!t. Then she says that Brittany can talk all the sh!t that she wants, but she should do it to Brooke’s face.

*Brittany needs to walk away from the situation, because she might explode, and then something very bad might happen. *Mackenzie points out that Brittany sometimes fights in order to deal with situations, but that is not always the best approach. (Author’s note: This whole situation is ridiculous. Granted Brooke and Nicole have excluded themselves, but come on grow up and deal with it. Stop talking behind people’s back and threatening to slap other people.) Brittany’s elevator arrives and she has removed herself from the situation. Brooke goes to Stacey to explain that Brittany threatened Nicole and that is just not cool for friends to do to one another. Stacey appears to have nothing to say. *Brooke comments that many of the pledges just love creating drama for no apparent reason.

Back in Buffalo, Applebee’s must be the best restaurant in town, because Nicole and Mackenzie make a beeline for lunch at Applebee’s as soon as the plane lands. Over lunch, Mackenzie and Nicole discuss the events of the weekend. Nicole apologizes for Brooke’s spaz. *Mackenzie confesses that a lot of people give Brooke and Nicole flack for their togetherness, but despite that, she thinks that Brooke is opening up more and more. Nicole tries to explain their side of the story, and Mackenzie just says they shouldn’t have assumed that Melissa would want her own bed, because she ended up feeling excluded, that’s why she was so upset.

Brooke and Melissa have a heart-to-heart in the Land Rover. Melissa doesn’t want things to be weird between them, but Brooke says that she is already over the whole thing. She really likes everyone, she is trying to get to know everyone, and she has no plans to change the way she behaves toward everyone. Brooke points out that sometimes it takes a while to get to know certain people, and she thinks that she is one of those people. Melissa says that it is hard to know Brooke better, when she and Nicole continue to isolate themselves. (Am I watching a Soap Opera?) Brooke promises not to socialize only with Nicole anymore, as long as everyone stops the catty gossiping behind her back. *Brooke tries not to let the backstabbing get to her, but sometimes it’s just too much. Melissa continues to harp on the Brooke / Nicole issue. *Brooke says that Melissa is more than welcome to hang out with her and Nicole. Brooke apologies (again), if Melissa feels left out, but that is not at all her intention. *Melissa hypothesizes that Brooke and Nicole like to do different things than the other sisters, and that’s okay. *Brooke says that they’ve put this silly situation behind them. *Brittany points out that when everyone puts aside all of the petty differences, then they are just like sisters…awwwwhhhh.

After commercial break, the pledges are all gathered in the living room of the pledge house. *Maggie explains that they are making a scrapbook with pictures from all of the pledge events. Brooke and Nicole pick out some of the more comical pictures. *Julia admits that looking at the pictures made her realize how far they have come as a pledge class. Brooke picks out a picture that apparently makes her look more bust-aeous. *Brooke says that she and Brittany have put aside the fighting incident, because despite all of their differences, they’ve all come together as friends and it shows. She thinks that she learns from every single one of her pledge sisters. This warm-and-fuzzy scene over the scrapbook culminates with the pledges all piling on the each other on the couch in a group hug.

*Melissa explains that tonight is Big-Little Night, when all the pledges go out to diner with their big sister. Melissa heads out with Talia, Bridgette jumps in the car with Nicole, and Brooke joins Laura and Stacey at Applebee’s. (How they don’t all run into each other at dinner at Applebee’s baffles the hell out of me.) *Brooke says that Stacey is joining them, because Stacey is Laura’s big sister. At dinner, Stacey gets all weepy over her “Little” and her “Grand-Little”. *Brooke is excited to be sisters with Laura and Stacey, because they’ve been so supportive throughout the whole process. Maggie joins Tiffany and two other sisters who I can’t see for dinner in what appears to be an Applebee’s-like setting, and Mackenzie dines with Nikki and Colleen in a whole other corner of Applebee’s. Then the kidnapping begins…

*Brooke says that after dinner Stacey and Laura tell her that they are kidnapping her.

*Julia relays how Loren blindfolded her.

    *Mackenzie got blindfolded too.

*Melissa was told that she was being taken to a place where her pledge sisters would have to find her.

*Julia has no idea where she is going, because it feels like Darcy drove around in circles.

    *Maggie is confused.

*Melissa knows that she is at house.

*Mackenzie fears that she is at a frat house, and she’ll have to do something horrible with strange boys.

    *Julia’s nerves are riding high.

*Courtney relieves the tension by explaining that tonight is the surprise initiation. Duh, the only people who hadn’t figured that out when “Big-Little Night” was unveiled was the pledges. As we watch the sisters prepare for the ceremony, *Courtney says that the Alpha Epsilon class of Delta Xi Omega are ready for sisterhood. *Laura explains during pledging the girls don’t always realize what sisterhood really means, but initiation really demonstrates that all of the sisters are always there for you. *Stacey believes that this class is really going to change DZO for the better.

Since cameras are not allowed into initiation, we watch the pledge cameo montage which features black-and-white shots of each girl from points throughout pledging as they reminisce about the past six weeks.

*Julia believes that pledging DZO was one of the high points of her life.

*Mackenzie looks back on all the times that they really had a good time, because the importance of being part of a sorority is really enjoying time spent with her sisters.

Cameras are let into the initiation ceremony at some point, because suddenly a camera is spinning around the darkened room. Everyone is holding a candle, and the sisters are treating the pledges to a piss-poor rendition of some weepy song about friendship.

*Nicole knows that the sisters at first were really apprehensive about her intentions surrounding joining DZO, but she believes that the sisters have learned how much she wants to be there. (I wonder if she what she would chose DZO or Tim?)

    More of the song…

*Maggie thinks that she and Brooke have come along way since the beginning.

*Brooke’s opinion of Maggie has done a 180—at first she thought that she wouldn’t want to be friends with Maggie, but she sees now that she was wrong.

    More caterwauling…CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

*Mackenzie gushes that she looked at everyone around the room, people she didn’t know from Adam two months ago, but now they are a huge part of her life, and she has had a great time getting to know them.

    Hugs, hugs, hugs.

*Nicole thinks that the best part of the experience was learning about six other very different people and still coming together as a class in the end.

End scene and end Sorority Life 2. No word on whether or not or when the reunion show will be, but I’ll keep you posted.
