Is Maggie back to her old tattling tricks or not? Inquiring minds want to know. By CarRamRod007

* Indicates confessional scene.
This week’s episode begins with a Week #5 pledge event to a hockey game. *Maggie explains that Darci has planned this event, and it should be a lot of fun. Julia expresses her displeasure with one of the players by standing on the edge of the wall and shouting over the glass to him, “You suck!” Break to Brittany walking out of the penalty box saying that she’s been kicked out, though I don’t know how she got there in the first place. Brooke and Nicole look bored to tears. *Nicole explains that it’s a mandatory event.
While Julia appears to have had fun, *she explains that everyone is going out to a bar called Quote after the game, and she just wants to go home and do her homework. Nicole makes an irritated phone call to her sister Natalie and complains that she doesn’t think that it’s right that the sisters are forcing them to go out after the pledge event. *Nicole thinks that is unfair that the event was centered on going to see Darci’s boyfriend play hockey, so they have to go out afterward too. Nicole announces to the pledges that she doesn’t want to go out, but Brittany says matter of fact-ly that she has to go. *Nicole whines that it’s not fair that Julia and Brittany don’t have to go, because they need to study, then she goes on to question how much studying they will get done on a Saturday night.
At Quote, some of the girls are bumping and grinding on the dance floor. (Note: this sounds prettier than it looked.) Nicole doesn’t attempt to pretend to have fun. *Nicole once again announces that the situation is unfair. More vignettes of Nicole looking bored follow. *Bridgette is irritated by that kind of behavior, because if you don’t want to hang out with the DZOs now, why do you want to become a sister.
Maggie and Brooke find Laura’s notebook with all of the dates and agendas of the pledge period in it. *Brooke says that the book specified that initiation was scheduled for Friday the 25th, but she is skeptical that this might be a trick, because she can’t believe that Laura would leave such an important book lying around the pledge house. But it’s true! At the DZO meeting, Talia announces to the group that a lot of information has been leaked to the pledges, though she doesn’t know how. *Talia says that the DZOs suspected that the pledges knew when initiation was. *Laura confesses that she misplaced the notebook she uses for all DZO related material, and the pledges saw the list of all the October events in the book. Stacey suggests that the delay initiation a month, though the pledge period would end on time. Amy makes a motion to postpone initiation. *Talia says that the plan was to delay initiation a few days, so that it would be a surprise to the pledges.
Back at the pledge house, Maggie tells Nicole the date of initiation. Nicole goes berserk with happiness. *Nicole also suspects that the sisters may have planted the notebook to trick the pledges, but they can’t give the notebook back or the sisters will think that they read the book—what a Catch-22.
Back at the DZO house, the sisters plot to continue to move initiation back incrementally until it can be a surprise to the pledges. *Stacey explains melodramatically that the pledges knowing about the initiation date is the absolute worst think that could ever happen, and she pledges to find out how the information leaked. The motion to postpone pledging passes, and the sisters cackle in delight.
Maggie tells Julia and Brooke that Janel told her “secretly” that there are about four weeks of pledging left. Julia looks stunned. *Maggie thinks that it’s just a trick to scare the pledges. Nicole begins a bit of reconnaissance on the Internet. *Nicole’s research reveals that according to New York state law, a pledge period more than six weeks long is a type of hazing, and Nicole says that if the pledge period is extended, then she will feel betrayed. Maggie explains the law to Julia and Brooke. Brooke gives kudos to the guy who wrote that rule.
Toward the end of week six, the pledges have to go on yet another scavenger hunt. (Author’s note: Here’s the thing about scavenger hunts…they are only fun when a long enough time has passed since your last scavenger hunt to make you forget what a pain in the a$$ they are.) Colleen explains to the group that they are not allowed to tell anyone that they are on a sorority scavenger hunt. *Stacey suffers from the delusion that this event is “just fun.” She shows the pledges a list approximately 40-pages in length and then announces that the pledges need to take a picture of themselves with every single item on the list. I’d be nauseous at this point, but the girls just appear shocked. Stacey then proceeds to tell them that a group of sisters will be doing the scavenger hunt as well, and the pledges goal is to finish the scavenger hunt before the sisters do.
At 12:12PM, the race is on. Maggie explains with a bit of trepidation that the list is actually six pages long, and she anticipates this to be a rather long event. Let the picture taking begin. We are treated to alternating shots of the sisters and the pledges snapping photos. The pledges have donned pink paper crowns, though I’m not sure why, but for the time being everyone appears to be in good spirits. And then…*Julia complains that Brooke and Nicole are not taking the scavenger hunt seriously enough. *Brooke thinks that the scavenger hunt is a typical pledge event where certain people try to take the whole thing over. Maggie looks irritated, and Brooke teases her in a baby-talk voice not to be mad. In the car, Brooke announces that she would not be doing this again if she were a sister. Nicole thinks that the sisters aren’t really doing the hunt, but she is proved wrong as we are shown featured scenes of the sisters running around madly trying to take pictures of themselves in shopping carts.
It’s now 3:13PM, the scavenger hunt has been going on for three hours, and the girls hit the mall. *Brooke pleads that they behave more ladylike as a group and explains that when they found a poor girl with whom to take a picture, Julia screamed to the group that she found someone for the worst-dressed picture. Nicole tells Julia that they are in a mall, and there is no need to yell. Brooke seconds the request and asks her not to make a scene everywhere. Julia doesn’t respond, and Brittany proceeds to steal an advertisement off of a mall kiosk and stuff it in her shirt. *Brooke admits that she is totally embarrassed.
The pledges are detained by mall security. While they wait, Brooke takes off the pink crown, and the girls bicker over whether or not they must wear the crown in this situation. *Brittany thinks that Brooke’s yapping on and on about the sisters this and the sisters that is a lot bigger deal than petty larceny. While I’m left questioning Brittany’s upbringing, the mall security guard questions them about whether or not they stole an item. In unison, they say no. Though the security guard doesn’t really buy it, he says that they should chalk this up to a learning experience and escorts them out of the mall. *Brooke takes extreme displeasure at getting in trouble. Back in the car, she explains to the girls that she wants to become a lawyer, and this kind of thing upsets her—not that petty larceny is a big deal, but it is. The rest of the girls look at her like she is speaking another language, which causes me to question the rest of their upbringings.
The sisters have taken a break at a piercing parlor where Stacey gets her nose pierce, Amy gets her belly button pierce, and Courtney is about to get something pierced when the phone rings. It’s the pledges really the story of Brittany’s near-miss arrest. The sisters appear to find this a good deal more amusing than Brooke did.
11:14PM…and the scavenger hunt continues. Brook suggests that they quit and just pretend like they didn’t know that they missed a few items. Brooke begins to plead to end the madness, and *she thinks that a twelve hour scavenger hunt is a bit ridiculous. But it continues, and Brooke complains that if the pledging doesn’t end this week, she doesn’t know what she’ll do—she just longs for normality.
The sisters do take Brooke’s idea and end their scavenger hunt early. So they head back to the pledge house and wait the pledges return in the hot tub. The pledges return. *Maggie says that the scavenger hunt was just way too long. Stacey tells them that they seem to have finished in record time. Maggie asks her if the sisters did everything, and she says yes, because they just know how to be a lot more efficient with their time. But no winner was ever formally declared.
On Monday night of week six, Maggie, Brooke and Nicole wonder if they’ll be initiated on Friday. Brooke giggles that they have to be because of the hazing law. *Nicole is concerned that it is week six, and it doesn’t feel like they are going to be initiated any time soon. Brooke warns that if pledging continues, then she is going to get really peeved. *Brooke admits that pledging is just really time-consuming, and she is sick of all the crap. Julia tells Brooke and Nicole that they can’t be talking about hazing. Nicole grumbles, and Julia says that they should disaffiliate then. Why does there always have to be silly drama? *Julia doesn’t think it’s right that Brooke and Nicole act like they are being hazed, when they are not. Brooke says she just wants pledging to be over soon.
Maggie tells Mackenzie and Melissa that Julia is in a tizzy, because Brooke and Nicole are threatening to scream the date on the camera, if pledging is more than six weeks. *Mackenzie explains that if the wrong person hears Brooke and Nicole discussing hazing, then DZO could get in a lot of trouble and might even get kicked off campus. Drama, drama, drama.
After commercial break, the drama continues in the Student Union. Talia calls a meeting with all of the pledges right outside. *Talia explains that one of the pledges (who is taking bets on Julia or Maggie?) told one of the sisters that some of the pledges are talking about hazing. Amy is pi$$ed and demands to know if the pledges think that they are being hazed. Sheepishly, the girls reply, “No.” Amy informs them that if the chatter about hazing continues, then DZO will be going downhill fast. *Amy defines hazing as activities that are forced on someone who is physically, emotionally and mentally unwilling to participate, and the sisters try to mitigate against any perception of hazing by participating in every event that the pledges do.
Brooke explains that they don’t know the rules of what is hazing and what isn’t. Amy accuses her of looking up rules to see if they are being hazed. Brooke asks her if they are not allowed to do their own research. Talia says they that are allowed to look up the rules, but she is concerned that the DZOs have been following the rules, yet the pledges are gossiping as though they haven’t. Brooke begins to respond, but Amy cuts her off. Amy asks if they understand that statements like, “I’m tired or fatigued…I’m being hazed,” could damage the sorority to the point that they will get kicked off campus. Janel threatens that if the pledges do anything to threaten the sorority, then they will be disaffiliated. Is there any way that there could be less of Janel on the show?
Brooke tells the sisters that if they are specifically referring to her, then please tell her, because right now she doesn’t think that she’s done anything wrong. *Brooke says that she and Nicole have joked about getting hazed, but that’s all. If Talia is talking about her, then she wishes that they would just come out and tell her. Talia and Amy tell her that she can say what ever she wants, but complaining about hazing because she’s tired is ludicrous. Talia states that she doesn’t like feeling like she is being threatened, and the whole situation has been completely blown out of proportion at this point. Brooke says she doesn’t know who is telling the sisters what, but…Amy cuts her off again to say that the news is reliable, and the sisters are not stupid. *Nicole says that there were only a few other people in the room, when she was talking about hazing, so she knows that one of the other pledges tattled.
When the meeting is over, Maggie tells Brooke and Nicole that she didn’t say anything. Brooke points out that the sisters were talking about her too, and then she goes on to complain about the continued tattling to the other pledges. Brooke hypothesizes that the tattling is a way for some of the pledges to get in the good graces of the sisters. *Brooke thinks that her pledge sisters will sell anyone down the river to look good to the sisters. Brooke threatens to Nicole and Maggie that when she finds out who told, they are not going to want to know her.
Nicole and Brooke confront Laura to find out who the sisters were talking about. Laura defends the sisters saying that they are working really hard to insure that the pledges have a fun and safe pledge program. Brooke asks Laura if the sisters are so unsure of her character, then why is she trying to be a part of DZO. Laura is disappointed to hear her say that. Nicole explains there is no point to her and Brooke purposefully saying that they are being hazed, because that just jeopardizes something that they are working to be a part of. *Laura admits that she is disappointed that the pledges are ratting each other out, because they should be relying on each other.
Back at the pledge house, Brooke calls a pledge meeting. *Brooke explains that she just wanted to know who was tattling. In the meeting Mackenzie denies that she did it, but accuses Brooke and Nicole of saying inappropriate things. *Mackenzie thinks that the sisters found out by overhearing bits and pieces, but if someone did tell, then it was probably necessary. Maggie says that she doesn’t think anyone specifically told, but Nicole points out that the sisters knew that she went on the Internet to look up a New York state law. Brooke points out the sisters used her exact word—fatigued, but she was only joking. She’s always fatigued, because she goes to college. Julia asks who they think tattled, and Brooke says they don’t know that’s why they called the meeting. Julia says if she did it, then she would tell, but she didn’t.
*Brooke was expecting someone to come forward, but that didn’t happen. *Julia says it wasn’t her. *Maggie just sighs and looks away (very guilty looking). *Brittany explains that she’s not a rat, if she had had a problem with Brooke, then she would have gone directly to Brooke. *Mackenzie doesn’t know who did it. *Maggie thinks it could have been anyone—leaving me to believe that Maggie is back to old tricks.
The accusations continue to fly. Mackenzie tells Brooke that she is being rude to everyone. Brooke explains that the tattling is rude to her. Mackenzie says that whoever told did it for the sisters. Brooke gets irate, and Mackenzie tells her to calm down. Mackenzie explains that they don’t want DZO to get kicked off campus, so they talked to her (Brooke) about the hazing talk. Brooke is a bit stunned and says that no one spoke to her. Julia must have said something, because hurricane Brooke barrels toward her saying that there are things that Julia does that she thinks are inappropriate, but she manages to keep it to herself. Brooke just says that if they are all living together, please just come to her to talk about problems. *Brooke hypothesizes that this incident will definitely delay initiation.
No next week preludes, so I guess we will have to see if initiation happens or not.
