234 people are cut down to 32

The 234 finalists are in L.A. for 5 days of try outs. They see Tony Bennett in the airport & Tony said he was the Britney Spears of his day. Simon meets them at the hotel & said one of them will be happy & rich in about 5 months as the next American Idol. He wishes them good luck.
The next day is the first competition. Half of them will go home at the end of it. They go before the judges in lines of 10 to say why they think they are the next American Idol & sing a song. Frenchie Davis said she personifies all the qualities of a star even though she doesn't have flowing hair & isn't a size 2. Marcus Curtis tries to kiss up & proposes to Paula. The twin girls, Cara & Rhian Morgan peformed together. They say they are double the talent. Other finalists are Ruben Studdard, Rene Tam, Bettes Richardson, Patirck Lake (rock & roll guy), Jessica Ramos says she bleeds rock & roll, Jayson unch said he makes the young girls melt; old women giggle & those in the middle he has a bootilicious @ss that can wiggle, Cheryl Bak said she is up for enw things except Playboy or Drrty video, Robert Jordan is from the South & knows how to treat ladies, Candice Coleman wants to be next American Idol cuz she sucks at everything else she tries & is the worst waitress.
A lot of people said either they were born to do this or that is was destiny. There are quite a few parents there.
They have to line up & some people are told to step forward & then the judges tell either back or front row to stay or go. One girl thought when asked to step forward that she stays but she had to go. We see a lot of people crying cuz they didn't make it & a lot celebrating. Rickey does his Hercules line again.
They are given lyrics & they have to come up with their own melody for the next day. Joshua Gracin (marine) goes first. Simon said it was very good & well done. Danny Rodriguez puts a bluesy twist on it & snaps along. Clay Aiken put a musical theater spin on it. Equoia Coleman did it Whitney Houston -style & yelled a lot. Stephen Franklin pulls off one sleeve of his shirt as he sang. Simon stops him saying he doesn't want him to take off all his clothes & thought it was ghastly. Stephen thought that was a compliment & Simon said it wasn't & it was dreadful cuz he turned American Idol into the Chippendale's. Vanessa Olivarez points to Simon as she sang about a good for nothing loser with very little personality who is nothing on his own & the only thing special about him is her. Krystal Louten sang that her friends thought he was too tough for her & says screw you. Simon said he felt she meant it. She said she did. New Dad Coffey Anderson was told by Simon he was bad.
More rows are sent home & we see more crying. 40 people went home total on that day. Now they are put in groups of 3 to see how they work together & who hogs the spotlight & who shies away from it. There are 31 boys & 49 girls. They have 3 songs to choose from & get to work with musical directors. The groups are not mixed, only guys with guys & girls with girls.
One girl group that has Kimberly Caldwell & Julia De Moto splits up saying they will get together an hour later. Most people use the evening to practice. A few guys want to go out & party & go room to room trying to get more people to go out.
Julia waits for her 3 groupmates but they don't show. Corey Clarke goes out to party with Stefan & Alden after promising his partner, Patrick Lake, that they will meet tomorrow morning at 6:30. Alden thinks they will get attention while out cuz they have the cameras. They party it up & ride a mechanical bull. Stefan kisses a girl & all 3 guys leave with a girl.
The next morning the buses arrive to take them to auditions. 3 people are missing. Corey Clark is one of them & Patrick calls around to look for him Julia's group is rehearsing without her. Julia said they made her wait last night so she won't rush for them. Aden goes to look for Stefan who is also missing. Corey finally shows up & tells Patrick he is on time, no in fact he's early. It is 8:30 & they were supposed to practice at 6:30. Stefan shows up. The guys are yelled at on the bus for being late cuz they were told to be there at 8:15.
Kimberly tells Julia they already practiced. it gets huffy & Julia walked away. Julia's sister wants to smooth things over so goes & talks to Kimberly. We don't see the whole conversation but I know from watching 'Popstars 2' that Kimberly has an attitude problem. The sister ends up yelling at Kimberly for being two-faced & catty & tells her she should have respect for people. Julia rehearses alone.
Patrick said his group is not gelling. Simon tells everyone he knows they are nervous but they should make sure they have learned the words & while they watch others perform, they should be reading them.
Ruben Stoddard & Rickey Smith are in the first group. Randy said they were very good, excellent. Paula said they were natural. Simon agrees & said Ruben sounds & looks like Luther Vandross. He said they were a tough act to follow.
Stefan & Alden rehearse for the first time. We see a bunch of people hit wrong notes & sing wrong words. Simon asked the audience why they bothered to applaud for them cuz they were seriously painful to listen & watch & were extra awful. Paula thinks they should be critqued indivdually but Simon disagreed cuz they were that bad.
Corey Clark & Patrick Lake's group goes next. Corey forgets the words & jumps off the stage to go kiss up to Paula. He kissed her hand. She hugged him. Paula thought it was beautiful but a little pitchy at times but said who the Hell cares when he approached her like that. Simon said 1 minute Corey is cool & the next he is schmaltzy. He could tell it wasn't rehearsed. Paula said but girls like Corey's kind of performance. Simon didn't think it sounded great. Randy called Corey dog & said you have to make it be in tone.
The last guy group has Alden Wynn, Bettis Richardson & Stefan Franklin. Stefan was awful & forgot the words. Simon addressed everyone saying he is picking up a vibe that people think this is a joke & they can go out & drink & think it's funny to forget the words. Stop wasting his & everyone else's time & leave cuz they make fools of themselves & it's an insult to the competition. If you think you're better on your own, good luck.
All the boys leave so the judges can decide who stays/ goes. They come back in & Simon said they have a problem. This was the worst thing ever seen in the music industry. They were pathetic. So now they will wait to see how the girls do before deciding which guys stay so there may be an inbalance of girls over guys. Randy said there is no excuse to forgetting the words. Paula said if they think this has been hard work, they have no idea what real hard work is. Simon said the right person can learn the words in 3 hours & work on 3 hours sleep. Marcus Curtis tries to kiss up again & speak for the group.
Frenchie Davis & Kimberly Locke have to perform as a duo cuz no one wanted to sing with their powerful voices. The judges loved them. Simon said they are 2 good singers.
Julia is still not rehearsing with her group. Some of the guys bicker. Alden is yelling at Alden for being a kiss up. Marcus says he is not brown-nosing.
We see a bunch of girls sing the wrong words. Simon said if this was a live TV show they would be the laughing stock of America.
Frenchie is Julia's roommate so she smoothed things over with her group & they practice together. Julia thinks they were all just stressed out but it's fine now. Julia's group had Stephanie Shultz, Kimberly Caldwell & Elizabeth Dickerson. Simon said Julia & Kimberly stood out. Randy agreed. Paula thought Julia did a good job & Kimberly has presence & fell flat but was overall good.
The guys get their decisions first. They line up in 3 lines. 1st line has Corey Clark, Alden Wynn & Marcus. They stay. 2nd line has Stefan & Danny Rodriguez. They go home. The 3rd line has Rickey Smith, Bettis Richardson, J.D. Adams & Patrick Lake. They stay. 21 guys made it.
The first line of the girls was told to go home. The 2nd line has Kimberly & Frenchie. They stay. The 3rd line has Julia De Moto & Kimberly Caldwell. They stay. The 4th line goes home. The 5th line stays.
48 people go to the next round. The booted get to talk to the crowd. Amme Pinna thanks everyone & the crowd sings sings Happy Birthday to her. Daniel Rodriguez sang "My Way" & said see what they cut. Simon told him to keep singing.
The final day is Friday the 13th. Everyone performs for the judges. Rickey has a girl walk on the stage while he performed Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel". After everyone is done they go back to the hotel to wait.
They are brought back & put into 3 different rooms of 16. Either the whole room stays, or goes. 1st room has Kimberly Caldwell, Joshua Gracin, Rickey Smith, Vanessa Olivarez, Ruben Studdard, Candace Coleman, Bettis Richardson, Corey Clark & Frenchie Davis. Randy said it's a tough journey & they have been judged toughly. America will decide their fate after today. They all make it.
Group 2 has Marcus, Alden & Stephanie Shultz. Paula said it has been stressful & had this been last season some of them would have made the top 10 but the bar has been raised. She is sorry but they will go home. They cry & Marcus walks out in a huff. He doesn't get it cuz he thinks he was 100 times better than most people & he always gave it his all.
Group 3 had Julia, Patrick, Equoia & J.D. Simon said he will make it quick. He congratulates them for making it this far. They stay.
The 2 winning groups get together & hug. The final 32 take the stage & Ryan tells us that America will vote live next week. The next show is on Tuesday at 7pm CST on FOX. It is on for an hour & it will have the following 8 finalists, J.D. Adams, Kimberly Caldwell, Lashundra Cobbins, Julia De Moto, Meosha Dentin, Patrick Fortson, Charles Grigsby & Bettis Richardson competing for 2 slots. You will vote on Tuesday night & then on Wednesday they will be live at 7:30 CST for 30 minutes with the results.
