Phyllis Diller tries her hand at blind dating, hoping not to find another "Fang"
    By Kathi Sartori

    www.mediafiends.com

OK, first off, for anyone not familiar with "Fang", he was the fictious husband that Ms. Diller was always complaining about in her stand-up routine. Ms. Diller has been married twice, but "Fang" is supposedly pure fiction.

Ms. Diller (as she likes to be called-either that or Madame) gives us a quick background on her career which has spanned about 5 decades. She doesn't hold back the fact that she is now 85, but says it doesn't seem to affect her dating life. She says its probably because the men can't see too well anymore! In truth, the woman looks pretty darn good for 85, but hey when you have money you can manage that.......

Date 1: (I can't remember the names of either guy, but both are much younger than her, meaning in their 60's) This date seems to be the typical first date for this show, as in they have the celeb go out with a weirdo first for entertainment value and then the next day give them someone who may be compatible. Ms. Diller and this guy seem to have NOTHING in common, he's a vegetarian, she thinks that's silly, he believes in reincarnation (and I mean REALLY believes, he goes on and on about it), she tells him she doesn't and they get into a bit of a debate on the end because he feels she just hasn't made her mind up yet, and she puts him in his place by stating that "When you have lived this long, you have made your mind up about everything (sic)." The dinner doesn't go much better as he is a non-stop talker and bores her to tears. She gives him a hint to shut up by telling him that her mother told her not to talk when she is eating, but it goes so far over his head it is floating around in space right now! Ms. Diller is beyond polite at the end of the date, (which makes this poor schlub think he has a chance sadly) but the host makes the comment that it doesn't look like a love connection. Gee.....Ya think?????

Date 2: A very nice looking gentleman is her second date, he was a lieutenant colonel in the Armed Services (sorry I forget which branch!) He mentions that he was in Vietnam, and that Ms. Diller had performed there, so they have a common subject to discuss right off. When Ms. Diller is shown his picture, she is mighty impressed, after he arrives they head to dinner. They get to know each other over martini's, even ordering a second round. The conversation is easy, they love the meal, and sparks are-a-flying. This time when she goes home she invites him in, and then makes it VERY clear that she would like to get to know him better WITHOUT the cameras (hey she's old not dead, I say 'You go girl') Apparantly they are staying in the house for the long haul as our host decides he might as well nap in the truck, fade out, love match accomplished!
